Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

Bigger boats by chance? If the combine load/unload I could see pushing the size some to increase capacity.
Another row or two, a more square cut to have a front row as wide as the rest (i.e. small world).

I think a longer ride to add capacity is also hopeful. More length equals more boats and more people on the ride at a time with fewer loads/unloads.

They'd have to change the ride altogether. Remember that there's two track sections where the direction of the boat changes, those two sections are designed specifically for the current length of the boats.

Edit: Didn't read the new info, it does appear that the layout will be changed.

Article over the OTPN about the ride. Not sure what there source is for this information, but they tend to be pretty reliable with their info...

http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/2014/10/epcot-frozen-attraction-opening-date.html

- Construction walls are up backstage and include the empty area in the plot between Norway and Mexico. It's possible this are is just going to be used for constructions staging and not new construction.

- Ride system will remain but the layout will be expanded to make a longer ride.

- New ride vehicles

- Shooting for soft opens in December 2015.

The side of the Norway show building that faces Mexico is where the large water pumps are for the ride, there's 4 of them in a row, you can see in the aerial photo

I have to quote someone from an older thead that bounced me to this one:

Frozen does not, in any way, shape, or form, belong in EPCOT. It's a stain on the once great EPCOT Center. An attraction based on a REAL culture and country is being replaced by a fictional land LOOSELY based on Norway. WDW management should be ashamed.

Let’s face the facts!
The original idea of Epcot is lost to the past and slowly being washed away, to make way for a few thrills to get more people in the seats... They did it with horizons (ie mission space), the land (ie soarin') and world of motion (ie test track)... But now they went a step further going for World Showcase... Even "LOOSELY" is a stretch... Norway is in Scandinavia... Frozen is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's Snow Queen... He's from Scandinavia... Well Denmark but who cares about borders...
So why call it EPCOT(futureworld, world showcase) anymore? More like MK for grown ups(sensory overload land, fantasyland 2)... They couldn't rename it even if they wanted to because it lacks everything the original park had... Including a cohesive point! What annoys me the most is them "fixing up" every ride except the truly broken one,
Journey Into Imagination with Figment, ironically the most unimaginative ride in the parc... Go figure!

...ok sorry... the nostalgia got the better of me... Can't wait to try out the new Frozen ride!

Calling the park "Epcot" anymore does sound kind of disingenuous...it's not, and never will be Walt's "Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow"...so why keep the name?

Heck if I can think of an alternative one, though. At least, not without getting sarcastic...

Jack Lindquist wrote in his book about whatever they built after the Magic Kingdom, he felt they needed to call it Epcot because the locals and media kept asking them when they were going to build "Epcot." Nobody really knew what it was supposed to be, they just knew that Walt wanted to build it, so they built something kind of inspired by it and called it that.

They have considered a name change in the past and I would guess that is still on the table.

Let's face facts here. The original concept for World Showcase has literally gone global since 1982 so reimaging it seems reasonable.

Future World's problem of trying to keep up with the latest advancements. I suggested several years ago that they should base attractions around self driving cars and missions to Mars because those technologies were at least 25 or 30 years in the future. Hah, got that wrong.

So reimaging/renaming FW at this point also seems reasonable.

Quite the challange the mouse has at epcot.

Altering the name and goal of EPCOT to something non-futuristic would serve as an up-front confirmation to the world that the Disney company has finally and completely given up on progress. Something that is at complete odds with the very foundation the company was built on. Now truthfully, they've already done this with the park anyways with the changes made in the mid-late 90's (new attractions not only lacking any real futurism compared even to their aging predecessors, but completely outdated upon arrival). But actually coming out officially with it would be confirmation that they've truly lost their motivation and desire to raise the bar and "keep moving forward". Nothing more than a white flag formally announcing that they're giving up on the Disney company's core philosophies.

The only "problem" with EPCOT is the current leadership's lack of vision and refusal to keep on the ball about researching the latest technology as well as approving the proper budget to implement these technologies logically into the park at frequent intervals. They've made the conscious decision for the past 20 years to stop doing so. They are desperate to find ways out of actually investing in the park the way its original creators intended, so they turn to the easiest and cheapest ways out. Lately this has meant converting rides to include Disney IP cartoon characters. Despite the fact that the park was never intended or desired by its creators to accommodate Disney cartoon IP's.

Even back in '82 when EPCOT was new and the Disney company was infinitely smaller with very limited funds available in comparison to the modern Disney, they still built the park with the intention of constantly improving upon it with the newest technology. And they did so successfully for quite a while, both expanding and upgrading some of the existing attractions to keep them fresh and still futuristic up until about 1994. The now massive mega corporation which rakes in absurd profits every year can spare some money now and then to follow through with the promises they made well over 30 years ago (and adhered to up until 20 years ago). Doing so was BOTH sustainable AND financially successful for the company even back then when they legitimately had far less cash to spare (back when the parks were the primary contributor to the company's continued success and existence before Eisner came in to reform movies and TV). They've also grown far beyond needing corporate sponsors to assist them.
