Disney confirms 'Frozen' makeover coming to Epcot's Norway Pavilion

Was in the swamps earlier this month.

2nd to last day caught the ride twice, and saw the film 5 times (am I the only one on the planet that's seen the film more than rode the ride?). The film makes (sorry, made :() the ride. (What might make me to not hate this change so much would be if they, in addition to the desecration being done, they add a Impressions de France type film with NO characters and NO has been actors mugging for half the screen time, that in essence tells the story of the ride & the prior film, but with more scenery [and Northern Lights!]. If you MUST get a host, get Andreas Viestad from New Scandanavian Cooking).

But don't worry kids. A couple of days after, the area that had previously housed that huge standby line was now offering Viking Ring Toss!!! (I asked if this was the new E-Ticket). One CM I talked to thought the change was dumb.

All (that's right, all) of the Norwegian CMs that I talked to disagree with the change and think that it is, for lack of a better term, dumb. I was actually surprised by their candor, but most of them are young and probably not PR-conscious.

While I don't think they will expand into the lounge, that's really the only way to TRULY expand this ride and make it feel different from Maelstrom. It's a bit of a missed opportunity tbh if they don't utilize that space for expansion, but we all know they won't.

The main news/rumors about the new ride is that work on it will involve reconfiguring the entrance, exit, load/unload track loop and the movie theater, and the lounge is directly over the entrance, exit, load/unload track loop, and shares a wall with the movie theater. So it seems to me like it would be a lot easier to scrap the lounge and absorb that space in to a new ride than work around it

I'm not quite sure I understand your reasoning.

The lounge is over top of, and surrounded by things they are removing, and a big part of the conference room area is directly over that "backstage" bend in the ride tack that, used to take the empty boats from the unload area to the load area. If that is all going to become "onstage" for a new ride scene it seems like the conference room would have to go

no it wouldnt, it would/could all stay as is even with switched load/unload, new scene in load. the ride show space has nothing to do with the conference area above so to speak. Unless of course they decide to rip all that out up there but with the budget numbers I cant see them doing somethign that drastic, and havent been told they would be, nor has there been any ounce of a rumor regarding the upstairs. I suppose that space could be revamped for the meetngreet but that would mean a major restructural rebuild in the building and again with the budget......

I'm simply going by the Maelstrom blueprints, if you want to post something about a budget feel free

There was some water leaking into the gift shop recently, adjacent to the register in the H/H clothing area. Couldn't tell exactly what the source was, but it was clearly something that shouldn't have been happening.
Yea I saw this on the 4th when I was there. Seen the water dripping as I also did at Splash Mountain gift shop on the 7th. It was where the hats were located. Just bad to have that dripping onto merchandise.

Article over the OTPN about the ride. Not sure what there source is for this information, but they tend to be pretty reliable with their info...

http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/2014/10/epcot-frozen-attraction-opening-date.html

- Construction walls are up backstage and include the empty area in the plot between Norway and Mexico. It's possible this are is just going to be used for constructions staging and not new construction.

- Ride system will remain but the layout will be expanded to make a longer ride.

- New ride vehicles

- Shooting for soft opens in December 2015.

Remember that for "new ride vehicles" it could also mean that they will remove the outer "shell" of the existing boats and re-theme them. They will definitely have a new look.

I read that article as well... I thought your last two points were the most interesting that I took from it. New ride vehicles is a plus and a longer ride is as well. Most had assumed the ride would be extended though with the loading area moving, so this is really more of a confirmation.

I hope they are just using that unused expansion pad for construction. Giving Frozen *two* pads seems a bit greedy, although there's plenty left over so it's not like it would go to another country any time soon.

Oh I wasn't saying use the expansion pad (although I think that may be used for a M&G or for extra queue space), I was saying since the load/unload will be in the same spot, that opens up room for another scene.

Those ride vehicles were on the road the day after closing. There is pictures of them on the highway on October 6th. My guess would be new boats all together.

Bigger boats by chance? If the combine load/unload I could see pushing the size some to increase capacity.
Another row or two, a more square cut to have a front row as wide as the rest (i.e. small world).

I think a longer ride to add capacity is also hopeful. More length equals more boats and more people on the ride at a time with fewer loads/unloads.
