I'm looking forward to this as well.I'm low-key excited for Horizon. Releasing a movie and its sequel in theaters two months apart is a ballsy strategy, but it has piqued my interest.
It's a shame Disney didn't have another completely finished tentpole family movie to release this summer... something like the live action remake of Snow White that's allegedly just sitting on a shelf all completed until next spring.
Speaking of Apes 9: Weekend at Charlton's, here's how that movie's financials look at the global box office after 7+ weeks in theaters. It's looking like it will not quite hit profitability.

He was being sarcastic.Snow White is not completed. They're currently doing reshoots.
I really can't see any reason to be excited for Horizon. The trailers seem to promise a narratively unfocused film with uninspired cinematography and bored, bland performances. Its a film with no clear reason to exist. Reviews reinforce this impression.I'm low-key excited for Horizon. I'm sure the new Quite Place will be a solid movie as well.
I'm just saying I'm excited about seeing how the gimmick of releasing a movie and its sequel in the same summer pays off. The movie might be awful, but I admire bold swings, even if they totally miss the mark.I really can't see any reason to be excited for Horizon. I love westerns and would be very happy to see the genre make one of its periodic resurgences, so I'm particularly irked by such a high profile but apparently artless example of the genre.
I'm very interested in MaXXXine as well.I'm just saying I'm excited about seeing how the gimmick of releasing a movie and its sequel in the same summer pays off. The movie might be awful, but I admire bold swings, even if they totally miss the mark.
MaXXXine is my most anticipated movie of the summer, however.
Lol, I guess I'm just the opposite in how I feel. I don't disagree that it's hubris. But the hubris of it all is what makes me interested because it could so easily go south! It's like James Cameron filming Avatar 2, 3 and part of 4 at the same time (although fortunately for Cameron, it appears that the gamble paid off).I'm very interested in MaXXXine as well.
As for Horizon's gimmick, the problem is that it feels less like a cagey, risky, calculated attempt to outmaneuver an unpredictable box office and more like an act of unfathomably oblivious hubris. Yes, sticking firecrackers up your nostrils and lighting them while declaring yourself the King of Greenland is audacious, but I'm not very interested because I have a pretty clear idea of what's going to happen.
Now, releasing a really GOOD western in 2024 would be a fascinating and unpredictable experiment.
(And let's not forget Costner wants to make two more Horizons).
A Quiet Place: Day One was a pretty good movie, but much more somber and character-driven than I think people will expect. It's about a woman with a terminal illness trying to find a reason to go on. I have no idea how well it will perform at the box office.
Just got back from it. It was pretty good but I had to reset my expectations about 30 minutes in. Those going in for a monster movie may find it a little slow or be disappointed but it is worth a watch if you take it for what it is.A Quiet Place: Day One was a pretty good movie, but much more somber and character-driven than I think people will expect.
