I agree. The other movies were more fun. This one was pretty somber.We saw Spider Man last night.
It was fine. Not mind blowing. Other than hype and enjoying previous movies, I do not understand why this does this much better than Superman, etc. It was fine. Nothing bad to say. I think I liked all previous Spidey movies better.

There's a line in that article that caught my eye because it's been a point of discussion in this thread as to how much the initial box office performance of a movie matters.
It points out that movies continue to generate revenue long after their theatrical run, and a film that loses money or is only moderately profitable upon first release can actually be quite profitable over time.

This has long been understood by the majority, and has been the standard in the industry for a long time. Unfortunately that isn't tangible for some people because they can't immediately call balls and strikes on a movies performance from certain studios.

In my community full of families with many children, Spiderman is huge with the 10 and under boys. HUGE!
After this incredible blockbuster that is rewriting the rules of the Box Office, I expect to be entirely inundated with Spidermen on October 31st.
I should do a whole new entry decor theme with spiderwebs this year, now that I think about it...
We could only get tickets for IMAX 70mm for august 30th...

Spidey officially crossed $500M domestic today, and becomes the fastest movie to that at 7 days, beating Endgame's 8 day record set back in 2019.

I bought the tickets very last minute. I wonder if a seat pair cancelled. Definitely worth it.
Absolute Cinema. John Bernthal is having the summer of his career.
I was also very picky about where we sat, so I had to wait for them to release the next round of tickets to get anywhere close to the seats I wanted.

Fair enough, I just knew the first weekend numbers. If it keeps a decent second weekend then you were dead on it's blowing past $2 billion. I just wasn't ready to say it til I saw this weekend's numbers, but it sure doesn't seem to be slowing down. Which is awesome, Marvel is right up my alley for the few genres I genuinely enjoy watching, so I'm hopeful this is the exact big boost they needed.

So while 2026 is still not back to prepandemic levels, its looking like it'll be the best year for the box office post-pandemic.

I think it’ll come in higher. But we shall see.
