Definitely add Live TV...it adds CBS and all the cable channel programming as well as opens VOD for almost all those channels as well.
Awesome - thanks!

Based on the articles that came out, Hulu may actually be in a much better position than Disney+ at launch as the series they have ordered for Disney+ are all becoming too adult and they have had to neuter a lot to fit the family demographic they wanted.

But Hulu currently as long as other partners do not pull out is an excellent value.
I've thought since the beginning that Disney needs to somehow figure out a way to provide programming for adults as well as kids on Disney+. They could hide adult-oriented content behind a PIN, similarly to how Xfinity blocks PPV purchases until you enter one.

I think the 'Next Day rebroadcast' aspect of Hulu's business model will keep at least the Broadcast nets sharing their programming. They are able to get viewership data as well as a solid % of advertising revenue. As far as the back-catalog business, it still behooves AT&T, Comcast and Viacom to continue selling to companies like Hulu and Amazon. It creates a revenue stream that these media companies are too dependant on. Only Disney has come forward to say that retaining their content catalog provides more long term value than the short term rewards it would get from licensing.

I'm not surprised some of the Disney Channel stuff is struggling at D+, Disney Channel has a very distinct look and feel and it doesn't exactly scream 'high end streaming service'. Which is the vibe that Disney is trying to convey at the moment for D+.

According to Marketwatch, the deal is done and Disney now has 100% of Hulu after acquiring Comcast's part. I'm looking for confirmation, but Marketwatch had a popup that said it was done.

Wow. Marketwatch doesn't normally announce fake news. I'm surprised it happened that quickly. I guess they must have been working on this for months.

No confirmation on any other site yet...super weird. But the China headlines today are sucking up a lot of oxygen.

Yeah, they're a good market news source, but they deleted the tweet so something makes me believe this might be premature. They likely got wind that Disney and Comcast are close to a deal and rushed to announce it.

Either way, this means it should be close even if it's not quite done.

Hmm, be interesting to see. I wasn't expecting a deal for a long while yet. If true and international roll out could happen this year for sure

Yeah, sounds like Disney wants to roll Hulu out internationally alongside Disney+, probably would allow them to begin offering a bundle of those two outside the US pretty quickly too depending on Hulu's rights agreements and what content it could get internationally.

I think a deal can happen quickly because Comcast wants to stop paying into Hulu to cover its losses on content acquisition. A big paycheck ($4.5-5 billion) along with an agreement to continue buying content from NBCU should be enough to get it done pretty quickly.

I saw a similar announcement on www.forextv.com, which has since been taken down. The version I saw stated Hulu has bankers going to the foreign exchange and bond market trying to price a bond sale to finance the purchase. That was as much as it said (one sentence).
Nothing new, but would be consistent with the process between AT&T and Hulu, where their shares were tendered back to Hulu, instead of Disney purchasing the Comcast shares..... perhaps they are thinking such an approach would make the regulatory scrutiny simpler.

So either Marketwatch got bad or premature information or Disney/Comcast/Hulu started to notify reporters and issue a press release and pulled it back when it realized that the China news would drown out any bounce they would get today.

Maybe we will hear more about this next week.

Yeah that makes sense to me; I think having Hulu use debt to purchase out Comcast's share is the most sensible option given the lesser regulatory issues. Once it's consolidated, the debt becomes Disney debt so it's the same either way the purchase is made.

The basics of the deal are probably done but there are probably minor issues still being negotiated. Things like how long the contract is for the NBC Universal shows. I am looking forward to the details. Once it is done, Disney will take all their streaming services across the globe. Next up is the worldwide expansion of the Parks and Resorts and cruise line.
