According to the New York Times:

When 21st Century Fox and Disney each bring shareholders together on Friday to vote on whether the companies should merge, the two people who struck the $71.3 billion deal — Rupert Murdoch and Robert A. Iger — will not be in attendance.

Mr. Murdoch, who controls the Fox entertainment empire, and Mr. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, have each decided to have lawyers run the separate meetings, according to three people briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private plans. Christine M. McCarthy, Disney’s chief financial officer, and her counterpart at Fox, John P. Nallen, are also expected to participate.

Iger and Murdoch will be toasting in Club 33.

People might be getting carried away but is there a possibility that Dark Phoenix and New Mutants will be cancelled? I expect an X-Men reboot to put them into the MCU once this is all closed but that would surprise me.

Following on from my previous comment I've just had a look on Google and this story seems to be gaining traction. According to these rumours test screenings of both have been poorly received and, with apparent Disney/Marvel influence, Fox have made the decision to cancel them. One site I read even went as far as saying it will be officially confirmed after the shareholder vote tomorrow. Of course they are still just online rumours so might not be true.

Disney, Fox file for deal approval in Brazil

A day ahead of their key shareholder vote on a $71B asset deal, Walt Disney and Twenty-First Century Fox have filed for approval from Brazilian regulators. The companies filed a control acquisition deal with antitrust regulator Cade, Bloomberg notes.

I hope this doesn't affect The Gifted since I hope Disney & Fox could find a way to include The Gifted in the MCU with the reboot X-Men. Hope Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool stays.

Brazil approval should be a breeze but apparently they have 240 days to approve it and then can extend it by a further 90 days.

No Cade, a Twenty-Fist Century foi representada pelo Grinberg Cordovil Advogados e a The Disney Company (Brasil) Ltda. pelo Levy & Salomão. O órgão tem 240 dias, prorrogáveis por 90, para julgar o caso.

At Cade, Twenty-Fist Century was represented by Grinberg Cordovil Advogados and The Disney Company (Brasil) Ltda. by Levy & Solomon. The body has 240 days, extendable by 90, to try the case.

Watch Brazil hold this damn thing back another 8 months.

Assuming Disney/Fox submitted their request in January, the 240 days is up at the end of August. Another 90 days would be the end of November. I suspect the submission reported today updates that request with changes to the deal and the fact that Comcast has backed out of the bidding.

I would expect Dark Phoenix to proceed as scheduled - it's too far along to not release.

New Mutants should be released as well, but the way they've been pushing it back makes me think it's a mess and that the film might be too horrible to bother releasing. I have a gut feeling that it never goes to theaters and much just be released to streaming some day.

Is it just me, or is Roberts being coy on the 3rd Orlando park...just considering? It has been bright green light in other discussions, land clearing under way. Why the hedge in an earnings call?

Comcast is going to be cash strapped with Sky and the roll out of 5G.... I’m thinking he is going to go to invest in his bread and butter (Sky, 5G), milk the existing parks for cash, but hold on the investment necessary for a 3rd gate..... He may also need to retool a number of his existing rides, and experiences to remove Disney and FOX IP..... Capital will be a question, and until answered, he would be wise to hedge on the new park.....

So, uh... I'm just gonna leave this (R-rated reboot of Home Alone helmed by Ryan Reynolds) here.

Wonder how Disney feels about this project in particular?

Given that New Fox is keeping the Fox name ( that we know of, can’t imagine they change the name of Fox News). Thoughts on rebranding all things Fox-Disney? FX is easy to remain, they already have enough distance from The Fox name...but the rest?

There is a lot of history in 20th Century Fox, but Time Warner is gone as a name.

Do we know that "New Fox" is more than a working title?

I assumed it is just a working title. The merger doc refers to existing 21CF as RemainCo and the combined TWDC + RemainCo as ‘New Disney’. Which makes me think they are all placeholders.

New Fox will have Fox News, Fox Sports 1, Fox Broadcasting, Fox Business, etc. at least on the TV side, New Fox is dominating the Fox naming.

20th Century Pictures was the name before they changed it to 20th Century Fox IIRC. They will just change it to that.

Everything else can keep the same name. The only tough one is Fox Searchlight, which may be changed but the name has a lot of weight behind it. Disney may choose to keep it.

Ehhh... "20th Century" isn't exactly a good brand name in the 21st century. Even the parent company of 20CF changed its name to 21st Century Fox.

Something like "New Century Studios", or more explicitly leveraging Disney's brand: "Disney New Century Studios."
