Did disney affect your career choice?

Not quite sure. I'm a Chemical Engineering major. While it would be very nice to work for WDI, I don't see that happening. Besides, it's not the place where I really want to work. That's a few miles East of WDW .

My father worked for NASA during the Mercury program. If you want to feel good about the work that you do, the space program would be a good start.

I don't know if I can really say anything, since I haven't actually started my career yet (sophomore in college), but Disney did have a little effect on me.

When I was little and we visited, I always wanted to run a ride cause I thought that would be so great to be able to make so many people happy for your job. I've just recently settled on zoology as my major in college, and I want to work at a zoo/theme park. While talking to my dad about possible zoos I'd be interested in and certain positions, he said "Didn't you always want to work at Disney?" and I realized that I COULD work at Disney, in DAK!!

So, right now that's my dream job

No, WDW did not influence my career choice. However, I am currently reconsidering my career choice b/c of Walt Disney. He is truly an inspiration.

It did not affect my career choice as much as where I choose to work. I work at a child care center which means i can go to Disney on the "off times" and not be at the mercy of the school year schedule.

One of my professors worked in the shuttle program a few years back. I need to ask him for advice on getting there myself.

I just love the space program. (I spent a good hour and a half watching sifferent shuttle and apollo videos today rather than doing work )

I would be afraid that working at Disney would take away some of the magic for me. That being said, when I retire I am hoping to convince the wife to move to WDW and obtain employment there. I don't know why, but my dream job at WDW would be to operate the trains at MK.

As for me, Disney didn't affect my career choice per se (I'm in church communicatons), but it has affected the way I do my job. The level of excellence that Disney achieves inspires me to look for ways to increase the level of excellence in what I do. I tend to use the Imagineering terminology as well...

Oh yea did Disney affect my career choice. I'm a mechanical engineering major with a hope to work for one of the many engineering divisions down there. It even led me to do the Disney College program, and I'm still employed as a seasonal cast member.

My father ran engineering at the Vandenburg tracking station during the early sixties.

When Ronald Reagan was shot, it reminded my mother of the day’s events when Kennedy was assassinated. My father received a phone call and had to run to the base to look for incoming missiles. An attempt on the president’s life is an act of war, and tensions were pretty high at the time.
Unfortunately, my father died in a car accident in late 1970. I would love to talk to him about the cold war/space race days.

Not to turn this into Pete’s family history, but I guess it was interesting times.

Yes, it definitely has...especially since I grew up around Epcot, I got interested in a lot of scientific/futuristic stuff and now I'm trying to become a theme park designer, if not specifically a Disney Imagineer.

I'm an Advertising major, with Public Relations as my back up...and I planned that decision entirely around Disney World. I'd always thought of Advertising for my major but never had anything to put it towards. Then I worked at MK 2 years and I was hooked. I don't think I can even describe the passion I feel for Disney World, as much of you on here will understand completely. So why not go through life trying to do just that? Articulate the pixie dust to the masses.

I directly thank Disney for my career choice. Every time we went to Disney, I wanted to know how the rides worked. My dream always has been to be an Imagineer, so I got my degree in Mechanical Engineering

And there has been no loss of magic for me, even though I've figured out the secrets behind all of the magic tricks.

Ditto all that, degree included I did a PI in engineering at WDW and I find it even more magical now than I did before.

Not at all. It is interesting. I know a person though another forum that currently works on the Shuttle program. Anytime he posts about it, it is interesting.
