DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

To also prove that Jim Hill has no idea what's he's talking about, in the podcast he brings up the attraction that puts you in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistence. Hill says that the attraction will be set during the time period of Rogue One when the rebels steal the Death Star plans. How can it be set during that time period when the First Order is in the new movies?

Finally caught up and reviewing the concept art from d23. Looks like there could be multiple rides that haven't been announced.

Can't tell if the roller coaster is 1 or 2... the back portion could be a form of RC Racer?
That barn in the foreground could be the Woody's roundup concept everyone talked about pre-announcement
TSMM is the grey building with what looks like a new entrance
2 areas circled above TSMM could be additional rides/play areas/show

My guess is that the d23 announcement was just the beginning, though I don't have a source for that.

For those curious, as many of you know, nearmaps.com updated their aerial imagery of the Orlando area to images from August 5th, but I can assure you that (except for the new theater between RNRC and TOT), there isn't a single bit of visible construction where either of the new lands could be going. I mean, I guess this isn't a huge surprise because there haven't been any other reports/permits otherwise indicating construction/demo may start, but I was at least hoping to see some of the very early signs (some light clearing out/fencing off of areas... similar to what was seen before they started the Soarin' expansion)... but, nope... the images from spring 2015 and August 2015 are almost identical in every regard.

The barn is likely a store and possible the new exit from TSMM.

The area circled closest to the edge of the map above TSMM looks to be a quick serve food location. If you look a the hi-res version of the art you will see it's a lunch box and thermos and there are tables in front of it. The other building up there is a very close match to the one in HK that holds the restrooms, so that's likely what it is although there could be other things in there.

All the store fronts on the opposite side of the woody statue seem to be more fitting for store space, where the barn has some space behind it and could be the ride plot. It seemed to me that people were pretty solid on a Mater's refit to Woody's roundup was coming and this seems like a good spot based on the drawing

The Buzz flying saucer ride is the re-theme of Mater's, so it looks like plans changed. The barn works as the store since it's also a reference to Al's Toy Barn from the movies.

Ahh... I was thinking the flying saucers would be a ride system like Luigi's and there would be a Woody's Round-up like Mater's. Though your Toy Barn concept sounds legit too. I can't wait to see more.

No but it's been 20 years, that show should've changed at least three or four times. It's just a basic blackbox theater. That would've been the prime location to put shows pegged to movies that just came out recently.

Same with beauty and the beast. Both of those locations were designed to be easily switch now and not have the same show run for 20 or 25 years…

It's old, it's stale, time to move on.

I would actually see shows that were new and worth seeing. That sure would help capacity no wouldn't it.... Getting disinterested people interested in seeing a show; waiting in line for that instead of another attraction. All of this while pushing the latest hit.

While the announcement for Star Wars Land and Pixar Land and maybe something else all sounds neat, it does leave me wondering:

What is DHS supposd to be?

Think about DL/MK. They're fairly clear with their lands and how it's all laid out and all that. Both are very popular well-rounded parks. You can make some arguments with regards to Tomorrowland and tooning it up, but, overall, they're fairly well rounded.

With Epcot it's clear that there's a look to the future and a look to the past (along with the multi-cultural aspect). Again, you can make arguments that Epcot ought to have more countries and Future World ought to be updated. I'm not arguing that. I'm saying that there's a fairly clear theme happening.

Animal Kingdom is animals and foliage from different continent. You know you're getting animals. That's the theme. It's well done.

Hollywood Studios. At one time this place had a working theme. Now it's called "studios" even though it is not a working studio. There are sound stages where they've put some rides and shops in. The old Hollywood is there and, with the removal of the hat, looking better than ever.

Here's my problem: I kind of wonder if they're just doing some quick fixes to DHS with, "Let's put in a Pixar Land! Let's put in a Star Wars Land!" Ok. Then what. Why do those lands belong there? What brings it altogether? Is it going to be "Disney Properties Theme Park"?

I'm just thinking that while we're all excited about them finally doing something with DHS, I don't know if just tossing a bunch of stuff at it really fixes it. It'll be interesting. I'm looking forward to the new areas and rides.

Are we going to be left with DHS becoming "Other". It has some lands in it. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Just some stuff that they stuck there.

DHS has always been the Misc. IP Park. Indiana Jones, Twilight Zone, Star Wars, Little Mermaid, Muppets, Power Rangers, Roger Rabbit, etc.

"Celebrate the movies live your adventures", also don't be shocked if that becomes the tag line for the park.

I kind of had the same problem you are having with this but probably posted in the wrong thread, so I'll move them over here.

Getting back on Topic, I'm having a problem visualizing all these new Mini-land ideas, They have Star Wars Land and Toy Story land now if they add other mini-lands aren't they kind of pigeon-holed into just a few lands and anytime they want to add on they have to build another mini-land. They need a way to represent lots of movies without always having to build a whole land for them. That's why I liked the idea of a portion of the park for Pixar, Lucas, Disney Animations and Marvel (can't happen to the extent I would like). It seems they need a place where they can mishmash some movies together but it doesn't look like that's going to be possible. In the end I'm worried that this park will become stale again and very hard to add on. New and better movies will come out in the future, how are they going to represent them, completely re-do a whole mini-land?

To add on to this, I like the idea that the Great Movie ride is in the middle of this and everything spirals out from it but I think the lands should be more genre or studio based and less themed to a specific movie. As much as I would like to see a Monster Inc land or a Cars land I'm starting to think, it just won't work, it doesn't leave room for all the other great movies.

It's not all that hard to figure out. This is a park showcasing the entertainment industry. Movies, TV, and Music. So Disney's Hollywood Adventure is a perfect name......that is rumored to be testing poorly with surveyed guests.
I don't think "Studios" really has to be removed. I mean, no one gets confused with the name "Universal Studios" do they? And both parks seem to be going in a similar direction with the kinds of expansions they're getting.

Name change not really needed IMO.
