DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

I can see that.

Edit: also.... I trust the people around this forum more. Proven track record and then some.

People who depend on page clicks for advertising or downloads for their podcasts? They haven't faired so well.
I'd feel perfectly safe betting on the higher figures. Because even if Disney's current plan is closer to the more modest ones, how often does one of their larger projects ever come in on or near budget? ;)

There is no way DHS will be able to keep the small crowds they have now if they don't do something quick... Frozen is already way stale. A Disney park you can be done with in 2.5 hrs??? c'mon guys...

What small crowds? Attendance at DHS has never been higher.
Whether or not it deserved it, the crowds at DHS actually increased after they started closing attractions.
And Frozen is not stale; It's still a white-hot property for a large percentage of guests, and as long as the park still has unique Frozen fireworks and shows it's going to be doing just fine.

Eh...... sorta.

Attendance only increased after the Frozen stuff happened, and only an increase enough to save it from the disastrous start of 2014. So whether people like it or not, Frozen is the main draw at DHS. Yes, the crowd levels this year are way up over last year at DHS although they still had an awful start to 2015... alas not as bad as 2014. The crowd levels at DHS reach a peak level only second to MK. So yes.... the white hot popularity of Frozen is saving the studios' collective hind parts.

As for attendance? DHS is almost at pre-DAK levels. DHS' highest estimated attendance ever was 10.5M guests in 1997. Last year was 10.31M guests. They bottomed out in 2003 at 7.87M guests.

So your saying most people are buying a package or hopper tickets so it's not a loss per se?

Yeah, exactly. And, if they're on the guidebooks, then there's a good chance that they're first timers or infrequent visitors. The "half-day park!" nonsense comes from the people who have been several times and don't feel like watching the shows or doing any of the non-ride activities. Even with the closures, you've got Star Tours, Lights Motor Action, Indy, Muppet Vision, Great Movie Ride, Aerosmith, Tower of Terror, Beauty & The Beast, Frozen, Toy Story, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Fantasmic, character meets, and a handful of other entertainment options. To paraphrase what a poster in another thread stated, it's only a half-day park if you ignore a lot of what the park has to offer.

Ok, one more question, is there not enough repeat visitors (who know there should be more in the park) to make a stink about all the closures? Or does Disney just not care?

Eta I'm talking about mentioning what is coming

Disney cares. They very much care.

The guests are there for Frozen right now. DHS had a fantastic June & July. The rest of the year? Eh.

So far this year, the resort is running at 65 days of peak attendance (A level I define at 8+ based on observed data from Touring Plans)
That translates to almost 30% of the year thus far. DHS is right in line with that, with 67 peak days.

The flip side to that is when the resort is slow, DHS is slower. Resort overall pulled 50 off-peak days (3 or lower) while DHS has 71 of those.

Complete feast or famine. I expect DHS to drop like a rock when the summer crowds leave.... which should be soon.

Won't people start complaining about the park pretty soon? If someone goes there and paid for a one day ticket to get in and it was that empty & thought they were getting more after reading guide books, I'd think they would feel ripped off.

People are complaining already. Disney is just dragging their feet. They have the same mindset about this as they do about the Yeti. Why hurry and do something if people are going to come anyway? They'll get it done, but they are going to take their sweet time doing it.

Yeah, you'd almost think they'd have to worry about things like budget, resources, and logistics!

I just don't understand why they wouldn't announce the makeover...they have everyones attention

Agreed. They don't even have to go into specifics -- they can say that specific attraction lineups are still being determined, but can comment specifically and say stuff like the new park name (or that the name is changing), more Pixar, more Star Wars. If something like a new show for BatB or a daytime show for the Fantasmic! theater are truly coming, they could mention that.

I don't think they have to go crazy with specific details, just acknowledging that big things are coming and give any overview.

I wonder why they don't have Frozen run into October, then? They need that float for Christmas at MK, but they could at least buy another month and a half of peak crowds and then flip on the Osborne Lights which are also a big draw. Why set themselves up for an empty park so soon. Come January, it'll be a ghost town til May. It was this winter.

No
All this complaining is bringing me down. I wish they would go ahead and announce something to shut people up. Still though, I can understand where people are coming from. I am excited to hear about it too, but the listening ear will grow weary and start listening to something else.

Ignore, or maybe just board with the parks offerings? It is basically the same park since 2006 (minus many attractions) except for tsm. As a great baboon once said... "It is time!" I am just saying, we need to get the show on the road with this park! Build something already!
