DHS 25th Anniversary Rumors... Hat Removed?

I meant quirkiness. It never ceases to amaze me the childishness of some people on these boards. So much for people being allowed to have an opinion.

Welcome to the internet!

And about the hat...I'm not going to tell you your opinion is wrong, I'll just add mine: the entrance doesn't even look a bit silly with the Chinese Theater peeking from behind the hat? The hat seems COMPLETELY out of place, I honestly don't know why it is still there

The worst part about it is that you can still see the Chinese Theater peeking out behind it. It's almost like they did it on purpose :brick: Move it please!!

Anyway I would argue which is more of a Hollywood ICON... the Hollywood sign or the Gruman's Chinese Theater. I would think more people(not crazy Disney fans) recognize the sign then the theater..
That explains all of the tourists that stop by while visiting Southern California...

Or those big name stars that continue to leave their hand prints out front. Who remembers people like Johnny Depp?

It was mentioned that the hat messes with the forced perspective of the area. I hadn't really noticed it before, but in the comparison pictures (even though the second one is a little closer than the first one) the hat does look gigantic in relation to the rest of the buildings. I think it looks kind of silly, being a huge hat dropped in the middle of the street and all.

As for the keep it/kill it debate, I think it's a nice, modern-looking icon. However, I think it is kind of off-topic for the park since it's supposed to feel old-Hollywood. At least the Earful Tower had a connection to old movie studios. The idea that the hat is a classic piece of Disney is nice, but I'm not so sure it fits in with where it sits right now. I think it'd be better if it were moved to somewhere where it wouldn't seem as out-of-place, but people could still relate it to the Studios. :)

ohhh and this isnt that importANT but just to say , yesterday i bought i keychain with the castle, the hat, the tree, and the SSE on it now wats it gonna look like without the hat. dont make the chinese theater an icon. Hello!! we live in america make the chinese theater an icon in china!

I don't think I've ever seen a dumber post (except for maybe the subsequent poster who stated "Well said" in response).

I think there's a lot of hat apologists because they've never seen the park without it. People will get attached to something inferior and still defend it because they don't know any better.

Trust us old timers... The park looks much better without the hat. It will also look much better without a stage in front of the hat in front of the theater.

Thank you!!! I never understand why they set up that horrible looking temporary stage for the whole summer for HSM now Disney Channel Rocks when those shows were designed with the moving float for the stage. That way the show just parades in and parades out not causing any disruption to theme or anything when there isn't a show going on. They either need to get rid of that temporary stage or break down and build a permanent one since they like to use the temporary so much...

Nope... been going to WDW since the mid-70s... and the Hat does not bother me at all.

I agree...all of this is just opinions!! Even after seeing the two pictures, I still love the hat!! If I wanted to be in Hollywood, I would go to Hollywood. I like Disney's version of Hollywood.
I grew up going to Disney, but did not go during the "college" years. I had never seen DHS without the hat, so until two years ago, I never knew the hat was not always there. But now, after seeing the pictures, I still love the hat. Other people do not...that's great!! There are many things about Disney that appeal to some and not others!! That's why it appeals to so many!!
I originally posted that I like the reference to Sorcerer Mickey, and that children enjoy the hat. Not all children are familiar with Fantasia, but most children are familiar with Sorcerer Mickey-from Fantasmic, merchandising, and the hat!! How many children are walking around WDW right now with the sorcerer hat on? And it's not from Fantasia, it's from DHS!!
It may be commercialism, but Disney is commercial!! So many rides you exit have a shop to go along with it...but that's fine with me!! Disney's rides, shows, and products all have a whimsical, magical quality to me.
I understand that some great Disney fans find the hat misplaced, but for my family and I, we have our picture taken in front of it every year!!

Our American education system at work!

Quote of the Day!:ROFLOL: As for those talking about opinions of the hat. Only one opinion matters, That of Walt Disney Imagineering and they hate the Hat and it will be gone soon regardless.

:brick: Like the people who get attached to something because it's how they remember it and find any change wrong and inferior? AKA 70% of the posts on these boards :hammer:

I did not say which one draws the most celebs or tourists. I said more people probably think of the Hollywood sign before they think of the theater when thinking of Hollywood.
What people think of first is hardly relevant. The issue is whether or not people associate the Chinese Theater with Hollywood, which they clearly do based on its continued prominence as a tourist destination in Hollywood.

What people think is different from what people think of first. Most people think of the Magic Kingdom first in relation to Walt Disney World, does that negate any secondary associations with other aspects of the resort?

Kids of today...
Bottom line is the hat will be leaving. They may even pull another wand on us and give a weeks notice...
