I have stayed at PO Riverside and really liked it but our fav is the Caribbean Beach. It is the biggest resort at Disney and it is never usually full so they spread you out from other guests. That is really nice to have more privacy plus there aren't as many kids there as there usually are at the value resorts. I have stayed at the value resort as well but if you can afford it the moderate resorts are a lot better in my opinion.

I would definitely stay close to either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. The Grand Floridian and Beach Club were both awesome for this reason. Being on the Seven Seas Lagoon is a real advantage to be connected by the monorail, too.

For staying close to MK, the Wilderness Lodge isn't a bad choice either, although it's not on the monrail line. As for staying near EP, any out of the Yacht or Beach Club and the Boardwalk are great options. The Swan & Dolphin is also in that area, although it's not a Disney resort hotel.....

The Wilderness Lodge would be my vote, even if it is not on the monorail line. Beautiful hotel and really can be quite relaxing.

As others have posted, staying in the MK or Epcot area is great because not only are the resorts beautiful, but the close location to those parks and special transportation like the monorail and boats make for an extra special trip.
Look into one of those and make sure to check if there are any possible discounts, promos, and deals to help to save some money.

For two of you, looking to manage costs, I would suggest you look at the moderates. Fairly quiet, nice charm and theming but cost isn't excessive.

Port Orleans Riverside, French Quarter and Caribbean Beach are the ones I suggest you consider. Each has nice features, I suggest you compare on line and see which one matches your personal taste best.

We loved the Caribbean Beach Resort in October 2009. Beautiful layout. Request a room in the Jamaica or Aruba buildings near the footbridge. Plus we had free dining at that time last year for staying in a Moderate resort - there are some recent indications that this may occur again in 2010. Given our family's eating habits, it was cheaper for us to stay in a Moderate with free dining than to stay in a Value without it.

Port Orleans is a great place, we found good deals for last Halloween through the internet (not through disney's site) and French Quarter was a few dollars cheaper than Riverside. I'd get with Richard from Kingdom Konsultants to see if he can help you too. Price out different options and see what works. Also, I know last year for my birthday (in early October) we stayed at the Dolphin and the rates were about $119 a night (of course there were resort fees and taxes that brought up the cost quite a bit) The best way to get a good deal I've found is research and using travel agents or travel sites, they get better discounts.

Thank you everyone for your help!! I appreciate it. We are now looking into Port Orleans & the Wilderness lodge. Hubby wants to stay at the cabins really bad. But seems to be too pricey. Are the meal deals worth getting? Or buying our own food while there better off?

Wilderness Lodge gets my vote. My favorite and you aren't to far away from the magic. A boat ride. Maybe its not on the monorail but it is worth it just the same.
