It's a nice story of a group of Star Wars fans participating in extreme makeover home edition about a year ago. I just thought the article also raised interesting questions... Does Disney have a harder job in as the article said "reversing fanboy disgust over George Lucas’ unbridled filmmaking greed and turgid storylines and stilted direction" Or is their task to convince fans of Star Wars that there won't be so much synergy between Disney brands already in existence and Star Wars. Please note I'm not necessarily talking about people who have experienced the Star Wars area in DHS/seen what Disney has done already. I'm talking about new fans who love Star Wars who have maybe never given Disney a second though .

If the Marvel aqusition hadn't happened I think this would be a harder sell to die hard fans, but Marvel can been seen as an example of how Disney may treat Star Wars in that they didn't Disnefy it.

We live in Austin, and myself, my wife, and our oldest daughter were volunteers for a good portion of that build near Bastrop.
Those fans were all over the place and we saw them film several scenes (we even actually saw ourselves on TV for a few seconds  ;)) from the show last night with them. They were great fun.
I was not aware of what all exactly they were involved with until watching the show last night and reading this. Good for them, and thanks for the post. :)

Note, the following comments are NOT to the OP or anyone at WDWMagic, but to the writer of that 'article' and the creepy fanboys, if they are real, that he quotes in his article.

I think that the writer of that article is a typical cynical spewing internet hate fanboy. I am more disgusted by 'fans' like him than I ever will be with Lucas. Maybe the prequels didn't go as you would have liked... big deal. People need to grow up and get over it. There's a generation that has grown up with them and the Clone Wars series and enjoy them. If you don't, fine, stick with the originals. But people like that still insist on calling Lucas greedy when he already announced that he's donating his Disney/SW money to education.

Then for fans to be 'disgusted' that the 501st, a fan volunteer group, would volunteer to help someone, that takes the cake! Here, I'll quote:

“I just saw the opening two minutes and they had Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers helping build a new house!” one Star Wars fanboy complained to me. “This is disgusting and it’s exactly what people were afraid of with Disney buying Star Wars. They are ruining the franchise by using it for trivial bull. Please write about this. It’s outrageous and it’s totally wrong.”

Well, I think that the attitude on display there is disgusting! Fans decided to help people out, OMG the world is coming to an end, waaaahh boo hoo hoo! Comments from a bunch of selfish jerks. Also, if the are that big of fans, then why have they seemingly never heard of the 501st? Perhaps the write made this all up to stir up (non) controversy?

Clearly a clueless fanboy. If they really knew about the 501st they would know that they have always done charity events.

Right?

And yup. Just another case of fanboys stirring the pot more than anyone. I hate having to convince people why there's no difference for the worse. Was The Avengers not the best of the Marvel films? Did I miss a Stitch cameo amongst all those Chitauri?

(In retrospect I actually prefer Revenge over Return. Where art thou, Lookaroundsmiley? Maybe I need a rewatch...)

Extreme star wars fanboys like the one in the article are some of the biggest idiots in the world

You said it! I mean, I love SW, probably much more that the writer of that article. Sure, there are things that I would maybe have preferred to be done differently, but that's life. I have more things to deal with. People need to get a grip.
