Well I have been looking for a full-time job for some time now. I work at Lowe's Home Imporovement. I saw Disney had a lot of full time openings so i set up an interview. I was just curious as to what they start you out at. I have 5 years experience in customer service and im 21. What do you think they will start most people out at? I heard they pay minimum wage and if thats true then i'm not going to even bother. Thanks in advance!

It depends on the role. I believe labor grade 3 (most host roles) starts at $6.80. Lifeguards start at $7.40.

I know someone will jump in here and give a definitive answer, but, I believe almost all hourly/entry level jobs at WDW are union and they are set starting wages. There is no negotiation.

I can't stay at Lowe's. Im just miserable there and there is no opportunity to move up in my store and my year raise was a slap in the face and that just put me over the edge. I will just have to wait till my interview tuesday and see what happens and what is offered.

Hi There

I do not know what you consider a slap in the face. But as a current WDW CM I can tell you that the amount of your annual raise is usually in the neighborhood of 20-25 cents. The current contract gives us our raise effective the week of Oct 1. Used to be we got our raise on our anniversary now its not till Oct.

I can also tell you that it takes 9 years of working full time to obtain the top wage at WDW, at least for frontline CM roles like Merchandise and attractions. Once you hit that level you will not get any more raises unless a new contract comes out that raises the top wage.

Disney

Get a job at Disney, have fun, then bounce off to someplace else. It's a great place to work as long as you are not looking for a career. Enjoy it for what it is, then move on (or go seasonal) when the magic begins to wear off.

In fact, I wouldn't recommend looking for a "career" anywhere in Orlando!

Characters do make slightly more money than attractions or merchandise CMs.

Currently characters start at 7.50 an hour.

Remember as well that when you go for a character interview you will also have to do an audition which consists of learning a brief dance type routine and then performing it.

Other than that everyone else(Merchandise, Attractions, Foods..etc) pretty much starts at the same amount of money which is $6.90 an hour to start now and next year which is the last year of our union contract, the starting wage goes to $7.00 an hour. With a 4% raise each Oct, unless you are at the top
of the wage scale which at the end of the contract next year, top out is $11.57 an hour.

do characters get paid any different than the basic merchandising and attraction workers?

There are certain roles that pay a premium. Resort Front Desk for example is one, Railroad Engineer is another. Entertainment is a premium position as well, that premium depends on the role your in at the time.

Hiring in now Full Time under the contract you'll recieve a yearly percentage raise as stated above around Oct. 1. There is also included in that a cost of living increase. Totals about a quarter. There is not a "top-out" any more, you just keep going up in the percentage raises each year. The "top-out" wage is only in effect for those hired before 12/31/98.

why not?

as a side note, most of you recommend not going to disney for a career; however, if youve finished college, why not give it a try? theyre a fortune 500 company with a great reputation and a good working enviroment. if youre looking for something outside of the hourly role, working a disney would be great.

I only quoted this post because I just want to know what jobs are considered being at "the top"? Other then WDW president or vic-pres or other job titles like that.

I am a college student looking into working at WDW for the 2007 summer season, and I am researching possibilities of subleating an apartment or roo for rent from mid May to mid August. Does anybody here know where I could get information about subleating a place to stay for next summer. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced

OK what i find really funny is mcdonalds here in tampa is paying 725 to start out and more if you work a night shift so thats just about what the mouse is paying people.

Thats cool about the resort front end because that is one that i am applying for in my interview tuesday. My raise at Lowes was 7 cents for my year raise, so i do consider that a slap in the face. I just want a job where i am not being threatened everyday that i am going to loose my job b/c i have a new manager who is on a power trip. I'm making about 7.60 now so 7.50 plus being happy is fine with me! And by the way thanks to everyone for your input

At 21, I say definitely GO FOR IT! I worked there in my early 20's and you will have an absolute blast. No, the pay ain't the greatest, but the experience is incredible. Even now, ten years since I left WDW, I still reap the benefits of working there. It is a great ice breaker and has also been gold on my resume. Good luck!! :)

RE: working summer 2007- Do the summer program. It'll be easier to get a job.

RE: Character performer- starting wage is $7.50/hour. Depending on your height, they may not need you. So the real question is "How tall are you"
