CP'ers and Hurricane

I have a good friend who just moved down to Orlando to do the CP.

My question is - what is their preparation? I know that she's never been through anything like this before. Is their housing pretty safe from this kind of storm? As with everyone down there, I'm concerned about them making it through this thing ok.

As a former Floridian, I can tell you that Vista Way won't blow away. Almost all Florida apartment complexes are built to withstand those kinds of winds. I would be more worried about crazy CP hurricane parties getting out of hand than Frances knocking their house down.

I am sure they are going to be OK. They will be taking the same precautions they have on the property as well.. The apartments are good, so i dont think they will have any problems....

I know when I was there for Charley, many of the CPer's who worked at CBR were working. Disney put them up for the night and they did clean up after the storm passed. I know that if I were down there, I'd rather be at the park than in my apartment...but I'm sure that everything is being taken care of at the complexes. In Charley, I heard the worst damage was a downed tree...on a car, but still just a tree! The CPer's will be fine...Disney will take care of them...I hope!

I have a friend in the CP right now, as well. She described Charley as "fun" a couple weeks ago, which should give you some sense of the security of the buildings, if not of her sensitivity. I know that Frances will likely be a worse storm than Charley when it reaches Orlando, having less ground to cover after making landfall, but as long as your friend stays indoors, she should be fine.

I know this is not a time to make lite of the situation, but im very sure that most cps will be having hurricane parties at the apartments, even more so for those cps who dont have to work because of the storm. Safe and sound though disney will take care of them for the most part. One of my friends is a cp there right now, she said that her shift for tomorrw has been canceled so she will be taking pictures of the storm...

I think you're right on that. When I was on my CP, we had it all planned out to have a hurricane party if one came along.

I was there for Charely, we closed at 1 that day (I had a 12 hour shift, worked for 3, and got paid for 12...ALRIGHT!) :) ...and then we had a hurricane party as well. Everything was fine. It was my first hurricane too, I was scared at first....but everything and everyone was okay. I wouldn't worry.
