COVID-19

I wonder if it could be because of COVID and how they're strongly recommending everyone get one? 🤔

ETA: Were there funds given to the states for this? Asking because of what the pediatrician said...that the state is paying or they bill your insurance.

I was told that at the Publix that we shop at and several others in the area were giving the shot for free because they wanted to make sure that as many people as possible were going to get it. And yes I would assume that COVID was obviously a factor in this decision.

I got mine when I was in South Carolina (my allergies are terrible in Maryland this year and I didn't get it before they started kicking in). I got it at a Kroger on Hilton Head. They gave me a bunch of gas reward points. Didn't spend a cent.

With the usual caveat of unconfirmed scientific hypothesis ahead, have some of us managed to get COVID immunity through mask wearing? The theory is that masks allow in a tiny viral load - not enough to be infectious, but enough to create an immune response. In short, enough to PERHAPS inadvertently vaccinate people. In a roundabout way.

Anyway, still at the informed speculation stage, but worth keeping an eye on.

That would be a God send if true.

Anyone who knows anything about how viruses replicate know this is bull****. It doesn't matter how small a virus is. It will spread and get bigger once inside the body, immunity or not.

It's not about the size of the virus, it's about the LOAD. The amount. It does take a certain amount of load to cause infection, known as
the infectious dose.

Unless you think the scientists who published this in the New England Journal of Medicine - scientists who work at the Center for AIDS Research and the UCSF Division of Infectious Disease and Epidemiology - don't know how a virus works.

I mean... I wouldn’t really support this; but it’s kinda ironic. In a grim dark kind of way.

This was posted earlier. It's definitely promising. Hoping it pans out as planned.

Source? Directly from LEO with firsthand involvement in investigation.

Just an aside, those that get shot and do not cooperate with authorities is a telling description. I'm sure the press will soon not even report that for fear of offending people.

Or how about the city you're referring to? To make the claims you're making, it would be nice to have some corroborated support.

Yeah I was thinking similar, I don't go anywhere now, and with the cases going steadily up in my immeditate area the forecast for Tink flying out of her abode is slim to none for the foreseeable flu season....if you are not exposed then is a flu shot necessary? But with many staying away from others yes I think the spread of flu should be far less. It's that factor of how your body would handle flu and covid that is supposed to be detrimental....but logically you sure would have to be OUT there a bunch to contract both for most people THIS year?!?!?
I was wondering the same thing. The bottom line is that it's recommended that everyone get their flu shot this year.

Here's another anecdotal reason that speaks to me, however unlikely:
So let's say I get COVID and end up needing to get care - either going to get a test or getting care in either urgent care or a hospital. Once I start to interact with people, my risk of exposure to influenza is increased. The last thing I want is to have *both* COVID and the flu at the same time.

It may not be likely, but it's comforting to know that I've had my flu shot.

Grand Rapids hasn't had their funds reallocated - https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-ra...ooked-by-public-amid-defunding-arguments.html

Same with Grand Rapids - https://wwmt.com/news/i-team/i-team...ce-high-public-safety-spending-under-scrutiny

It looks like funding has continued as is (unless you have a news story) with crime rates being high. So is the thought that more money (since nothing has been taken from what I can tell) is needed?

Getting my shot tomorrow. I was really happy my particular doctor was proactive about this and called me up to schedule it last week.

Yup.

Definitely need to wear their masks, but definitely context is important. Between both states, they have 350 deaths. To blast them when their deaths are so low is not taking a measured approach on a solution that works for North/South Dakota, especially with low population density. One size fits all doesn't work everywhere and that needs to be considered.

Findings from a case-control investigation of symptomatic outpatients from 11 U.S. health care facilities found that close contact with persons with known COVID-19 or going to locations that offer on-site eating and drinking options were associated with COVID-19 positivity. Adults with positive SARS-CoV-2 test results were approximately twice as likely to have reported dining at a restaurant than were those with negative SARS-CoV-2 test results.
