Ok, so I'm leaving after my last final on monday night, the 21st. Tossing the pooch in the car and driving down to FLA. I'm bypassing camping in the smokeys so I can get a few days in at disney as well as some diving, etc.

Anyway, my questions are......

Extra magic hours--on the official website, it lists, for example AK closing at 5pm (lame) but has extra magic hours under it. I'm assuming that this means the normal park hours are til 5, extra magic hours until maybe 7 or 8?

Secondly, Last year (feb) I bought a 7 day ticket with all the bells and whistles.......after reading into it, it looks like I can do the extra magic hours, or do I still need to be staying at a resort (I have family there, most likely staying with them)

Anyone with crowd predictions on weds the 23rd and thurs the 24th and mon the28th?

Thanks to all who can help :xmas:

You need to be at a resort to take advanatage of EMH, you need your own room key in order to get a wristband

Evening EMH are usually for the three full hours, so if AKL closes at 5 then EMH runs from 5-8 pm.

To qualify for EMH you need to be staying onsite at one of the resorts. They will scan keycard/pass prior to giving you your wristband. Each card can only be used once. You can stay in the parks later, but you woun't be allowed on the rides or into the shows.

Is this something new? When I was at WDW last summer all I needed to do was show my room key and they gave me a wristband. Now they're scanning the cards? Thanks :)

Have a great trip!

Would you still be allowed to walk the trails at AK? If yes, it would make sense to stay. Go on all of the rides, do all of the attractions, and see all of the shows (or as many as you can) during regular hours, and do the Asian and African walks later.

Of course, The Son insists on checking the Komodo Dragon first thing every visit, so we would be waiting in line foe EE later.

OK, well, that might actually work just fine for me. All I really want to do is setup a tripod somewhere of to the side once the sun is setting/has set.

Last summer during EMH, Africa was closed :(

Hopefully they've changed that but I wouldn't bet on it :)

And I wonder how easy it would be to 'scalp' a wristband. I'd pay 30 or 40 bucks for one.

We were there last August and they were scanning cards even then.

The CMs put the band on your wrist quite tightly so that they need to be cut off.

Difficult. Getting one from a guest would be problematic because the CMs attach them when they give them out, they have to be cut off your wrist. Trying to buy one from a CM could get the CM in question fired if you succeed and you escorted out and possibly banned from the parks if you don't succeed.

EDIT: I won't go into detail on the ethics involved... that you ask the question puts yours in question.

I was there in July so they must have instituted it between July and August :)

Yeah, those wristbands are on quite tight and the only way to get them off is to "damage" them :)

Looks like someone didn't eat their 'moral fiber' for breakfast this morning!

Eh, I'm not much of a breakfast person anyway.

It may not be the most ethical thing in the world, but I don't see it doing much harm. I wouldn't buy one unless it was offered to me, I would never go ask a CM for one, thats ridiculous, and I would never ask another guest for one, thats just rude. But if the situation came up.....I wouldn't say no. If it bought a kid an extra souvenir for more late hours at the park that they didn't need.....I wouldnt feel so bad. But more than likely I'll be at the Boardwalk anyway, so I won't need to scalp them. Was more of a tongue in cheek question than a statement on which to judge me by.

Well...first of all...it's a program or a perk for resort guests. If they allowed it they might as well just leave the park open for everyone and take the perk for staying on property away.

Why would anyone even offer it? And as stated, the wrist bands are attached by the CM and have to be cut off....there's no way you could get one even if you wanted one unless you either bribed a soon to be fired CM or stole one.

Lastly...yes it is a statement to judge you on regardless of the intent since you made a statement about getting something for which you aren't entitled to.

Basically....if you want to go to EMH, you're going to have to stay on property, with the EMH day being either check in day or the departure day.

At the risk of being labeled a moral degenerate by the holy-rollers, you mentioned you had family staying at the resort. Are all of them attending EMH? You could probably use one of their cards if they weren't. Or even if someone won't be doing the rides, because you only need the wristband to get in line for attractions. Unless they've changed it drastically, a CM glanced at my Key To The World and slapped a wristband on - they don't check it against your id or anything. At least that's my experience, getting them from CM's while already in the park; perhaps it's different if you enter during EMH at the front gate.

In either case, they will not kick you out of the park (especially if you are with family who does have the wristbands), but if you don't score a band you just won't be able to enter attraction queues.

They scan your room key, not just look at it.
