Is that to fire people! Oohhh...pick me!...I can do it!😈

I made the case there’s a void since neuron Jack croaked a couple weeks ago on a thread...
Seriously though...Disney is going to slash and burn the employee ranks like a Brazilian rainforest...and people will make tons of CC level Econ class excuses for them...

Get your popcorn.
Iger will let Chapek take credit for that one

I believe that it is why we are doing it in phases. Also it's more than just getting the economy up and running things like routine doctors visits and test needed to resume are there will be added deaths .
They are doing it in phases but they want to do it quickly too. The talk of Disney opening by summer shouldn't even be a thing.

I think that is a matter of personal opinion. I have faith in Dr. Brix and Dr. Fauci and feel like neither would be on board with this" phase plan" if they thought it would cause mass casualties. As for Disney I hope it is open for my July trip but if not life will go on!!

Interesting read. Wynn resorts CEO wants Nevada to open the Strip by mid-May under social distancing. His plan includes reduced hotel occupancy, physical distancing, temp checks and no large gatherings. Some of the stuff we talked about earlier about Disney including only allowing 4 people in an elevator at a time and having exterior doors either propped open or automatic. It’s not the same as a theme park but it’s a popular tourist destination which draws people from all over. There’s alot of similarities. In Hong Kong the casinos have been re-opened for a while now but still no Disney park.

It will be a disaster. Are they going to unplug 80% of the slot machines?

In theory you could just handout those disposable wipes you get at wing place and have people wipe the machines down before using it;). I’d be more worried about the cards, chips and dice everyone is handling. I assume the buffets will be shut down too.

Not making it to a hospital where it appears their first act was to sedate you and put you on a ventilator was problem what has saved many people.
I'm not sure we will know that in any country until there has been a proper health authority assessment of how many people died in their own homes, or suffered COVID-related heart failure that meant they were never tested and the EMS just took them straight to the morgue without an assessment.

This would be the absolute worst case scenario for the world economy. If there is no vaccine then it’s also very likely that the infected are not immune or not immune for very long and so there’s no way to achieve herd immunity. Without herd immunity there will need to be permanent changes to life as we know it. There’s no going back to normal. A country like the US may have the means to ramp up hospital facilities and medical staff in a few years, but that’s more challenging worldwide. As a result the worldwide economic depression would likely last for a decade or longer.

Without a vaccine there would need to be extreme testing and tracing. The Google/Apple tracking app or something like it would have to become the norm. There’s no way to effectively trace contact without the use of some kind of technology. Choosing between privacy rights and endless depression the people are going to choose to give up some rights. Anyone who doesn’t comply would have to be limited from interacting publicly. In order to go to a place like WDW or a sporting event or possibly even a restaurant/bar/club you will have to be signed up. We are also going to have a shortage of healthcare workers and probably first responders since they will be disproportionally impacted by an extended outbreak.

Thats all a pretty grim picture to paint and I hope it never happens. There are at least 15 companies who either already started clinical trials for a vaccine or are about to. Our best bet to get back to normal is that one or more of those work out and we can get everyone vaccinated ASAP. Then we can all go back to life as normal.

In the absence of a vaccine/treatment, the other option is to close off travel as much as possible. If an island or state has no infections, and nobody entering/exiting, then that place would only get infections through travel.

Out sourced it to where, Fedex outsourced their IT to India
Disney outsourced a lot (not all) of their IT functions back in the mid 2000's. Most all of those companies (there are multiple) have a hybrid of onshore and offshore resources depending on the requirements of the services that particular company is providing and the locations they are providing it for. Some of those agreements cover the entire corporation globally, some just cover a specific division or a specific geography. There isn't just one company they outsourced to, or one pattern to how that outsourced service is delivered. There are also major portions of the IT function in some divisions that Disney does entirely internally as well. And in reality, this is the pattern MOST major corporations are using nowadays.

How could you reasonably play multiple slot machines while sitting on your behind if they unplug nearby slot machines to force social distancing?

Propping open doors sounds like a bad idea. Depending on their location, doors need to remain closed or be able to close to help prevent the spread of smoke and fire.

What about the disinfectants that the airlines are using? I’ve read some of them can last over a week. Just doing a quick search there are some that last 24 hours on surfaces. Disney could deep clean each night using those products.

I'm sorry, but there is NO way google/app/phone social tracking will become mainstream. That's something that crosses my morals and many others and I will not have my phone on me then. It completely invalidates any individual privacy, profits off of it, and who knows what else it could be used for...
Well, the first people signing up to support it will be health insurance companies and you can bet that anyone who refuses to sign up may quickly become un-insurable.

Agreed. They would need to follow all fire codes. I think in the case of Vegas they are talking about the front door in. Instead of having multiple doors open they would limit the number and use either the automatic ones they already have or have a door man open the doors. Disney could do the same. Some of the resorts already have the automatic doors in the lobby.

If any of those things prove to work I’m sure they will be implemented. Nothing is going to be perfect but if you combine some social distancing with some temperature checks and heavy cleaning it’s going to be a lot better than doing nothing.

I agree with this with just one caveat. Everyone is talking about the phased re-opening plan as though a smooth and linear path from 1 to 2 to 3 is guaranteed and, boom, we're out of the mess. It's not.

The plan is phased specifically so you can gauge the result and pull back if needed. I, personally, think right now folks are pushing a few weeks too soon to get things re-opened and that when restrictions start to be relaxed, we may very well see an upsurge in virus cases. I hope I am wrong.

But if that does happen, will there be the societal and political will to go back to "lockdown" and wait to try again later? I have serious doubts and that is what really scares me most right now.

I know it has a lot of support right now, but I just do not see the value of temperature checks in this context. First, we know a huge number of people are asymptomatic or at least have no fever even when infected with COVID-19. Second, we know the time period from infection to the onset or symptoms can be as much as 14 days. And, third, if one does have a fever, a simple dose of Motrin will effectively hide the particular symptom.

I just don't think temperature checks provide protection like people seem to think they do.
