Is that why Florida has around the same covid rates as California and New York despite having the highest elderly population in the United States, and being open for about a year longer than they were??? Is that why Florida has a lower unemployment rate as well? It's possible people simply ask questions instead of believing the "science" and politicians all the time. People have been questioning things and been told how wrong they were only for the truth or possible truths to come out later. Hence lab leak theory is greatly possible. Hence opening up the economy to soon is "barbaric" only to show its the exact same as when others don't open. It's ok though cause New York and California are the top 2 states people are moving away from, and Florida is the state people are moving to the most. But I suppose you probably believe the dumb ones are moving away while the smart intelligence ones are staying.
if you were to tell me 1 year ago that this was going to be true i would have called you crazy

The USA's vaccination rate is not that high. The Delta Indian variant will become the dominant strain - and then we will see cases go up again.

You only have to look at what is happening in the UK. The rates in the UK have gone up 200% in a few weeks, which a more tranmissible variant.

I'd enjoy the parks now before rates go through the roof again.

No reason to let fools off the hook from doing something free and useful either
I’m not sure why it always comes back to this. If I say we’re all doomed and a huge wave is coming so get your Disney parks time in before they close again does that mean I’m “keeping fools on the hook”? I’m just trying to figure out what the rules are.

You are looking at the present. At the moment everything in the USA looks great. However, it's also prudent to keep an eye on the future and look for patterns. At the moment the Delta India variant is still in low numbers in the USA, but it's predicted to become the dominant strain.

The US being the huge world hub it is has it's borders open at the moment (closed to Europe and some other countries) - and will eventually have to open up even more. It's this more new transmissible variant that you have to worry about. Israel's borders are closed, so they have not had the indian variant.

Go look up the UK, where the Indian variant has now become the dominant strain - and see how cases have gone back up, and lockdown extended despite a huge vaccination programme.
you ought to read this thread: because your opinion on the Delta variant is not based in fact

Usually it’s triggered by some variation of “well...we can’t expect ALL people to care...”

so we end up like this:

One interesting thing that has come out about the delta variant in the uk is the change of symptoms. Most reporting runny nose, sore throat and headache wirg no cough or loss of smell - this is good as it’s milder due to those it’s infecting as well as those partially vaccinated, perhaps suggests it may be getting weaker (just my opinion) but also maybe bad as people with these symptoms may not test as they will think hayfever or cold - perhaps why it’s spreading a lot easier

He's misleading with some dodgy calculations. The Delta Indian variant is only around 6% in the USA, and expected to be 100% by the fall. In the UK virtually every case is now the indian delta variant.

Once the delta variant takes full swing in the USA most likely rates are going to shoot up.

Honestly looking at pics and such I am glad we weren't there for the mask dropping. It's hot for a lot in my clan and being pushed in together that much on Jungle Cruise isn't fun. So glad we got in before the squish ;)

At this point I will have faith in the vaccine (something I didn't have much faith in even this time last year - even though I had already signed up for a few trials) that it will keep loved ones as safe as possible. I hope people will continue to vaccinate. I'm emotionally exhausted though and feel there isn't much more I can offer to do. So for now, I will look forward to seeing family and having a normalish summer. I just hope more vaccinate and we get even better as time goes on.

That’s pretty much where I am too. Sure I‘d love the vaccination rate to be higher nationally, but it’s not and there’s little I can personally do about it. Vaccine rates are pretty high around me so I’m hopeful we hold cases down, but I know for some people me having any hope for a good outcome at all is just me settling for “good enough” or me letting people off the hook or me claiming victory prematurely. I am pretty hopeful anyway that we will be good and this Summer will be pretty close to normal.

My area is 50-60%. I also have no idea how those who had to go to other counties were counted since for a while my own was impossible to vaccinate in. So we're not awful, but not great either.

We already had our trip to Disney. We went to the zoo yesterday to celebrate 2 weeks post 2nd vaccine and didn't even bring a mask (we're mostly outdoors anyway). My brother is coming to visit soonish - have not seen them in a year and a half! Not claiming victory here, but I am somewhat hopeful still. I really went out of my way to help people vaccinate, so I'm not sure what personally I can do more. Numbers are continuing to look good where I live so I will take it as a partial victory and hope it continues better.

I know globally we have a longer way to go. I hope somehow we can help these countries who need it.

Me too the same for medical appts , a few mom and pop business with the sign - No Mask No Service , and enforced in airports I was in and flying on United recently.
Yep, medical here as well. A few smaller shops asked before I left and I was happy to comply. Not judging one way or another at this point. Of course the airport did and at the time Disney did indoors in public areas. Came home Friday night and so far haven't needed one yet. Just keep one on hand in case...

I'm getting in the habit and using my washable masks. The string masks are very flimsy and the string breaks very easily from my experience.

I think @Heppenheimer hit the nail on the head; while there are problems in specific region, a common theme is high vaccine acceptance among Americans who are older (84 percent plus last I looked in 65+). It’s the younger groups for the most part who are lagging regardless of location.

I actually came here to share this because it really surprised me. Toronto’s 18-24yo demo - currently 81% vaccinated - is actually ahead of the combined 60+ Age group.

Just when we think we can place this into a neat box, different locations buck the trend. I don’t have a great explanation for why younger demographics are doing way better in Canada than the US. I do think they are more likely to be better educated? But I don’t know what else is at play

I saw an article somewhere that talked about how quite a lot of 80+ in Toronto specifically are still unvaccinated.

Many seniors in the city don't have access to a computer or email, or don't speak English, or have a way of getting to a vaccine clinic.

The role out in the province favors those who are tech savvy, have the time/stamina to wait in long lines at pop ups, or don't mind going to an appointment at odd hours of the day.

I only use them for singing at home, and some are bad about breaking for me if tying a knot to make fit tight. We used them exclusively for Disney though since they do breathe better (why I wear them for singing). The white I found were smaller fitting and worked on me better. The black were favorites of the rest and the blue left overs we gave to a family that was running low. Otherwise my reusables are now being stashed in pockets of handbags just in case. I keep a couple disposable in my car as well.
