EPCOT Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT Temporarily Closing in Early September 2026

We dined there in December as it was essentially the only Candlelight package we could get. Our expectations were lower than low, but food was good and service was excellent. We lucked out with a table right by the tank and got to hear all about a big manta ray who decided to hang out with us. The interior is very dated though and I think it's definitely time for a redo, maybe get rid of the carpet, update the restrooms and waiting area. I hope they take the opportunity to refresh the menu too. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but has been the same for a while and could be so much better. Although has always struck me as odd to be eating fish while looking at fish. Like, "oh, your cousin is delicious!"

Nooo! I was wanting to book it for Sept 13th, the booking window was approaching. But...as long as it's just a refurb and not "seasonally closing" as the next step to permanent closure after the reduced hours, then that's fine, he says clutching at straws.

This apparent failure is solely on the incompetence of management. There is no reason other than incompetence, why this location can not be rebooted into a real signature experience.

Also...isn't the fall and winter now no longer slow season thanks to the hordes of DA infesting the place?

One DA to another DA, The Food & Wine Festival runs from August 27 to November 21, 2026. Table Service demand plummets during festivals, particularly Food & Wine. There couldn't be a better time to refurb a restaurant.

It's really no different from living on a working farm and eating what the farm produces meat/crop-wise.

The weaker TS get hurt for sure and CR is definitely a weaker one. But the popular ones experience an increase in demand.

So...

Here's a thought for Disney...people paying stupid high prices don't want to be served the lesser equivalent of knock off Red Lobster.

Families can't afford or seek out weak TS venues and will go elsewhere...so don't cater to them. Dump the strollers and children and mediocre dishes and build a classy dining experience for adults (since that's Disney's new target). Elegant decor, quality drinks and cuisine and you have an instant winner.

General refurbishment? Excellent! No, we don't want it to turn into an expensive prix-fixe or mega-posh, mid-tier TS's are expensive enough.

It appears Coral Reef Restaurant may reopen on November 4, 2026 - operating hours have been added and reservations are now available:

Coral Reef was always our favorite restaurant in the parks.
When we took annual family vacations to WDW, Coral Reef was always our first reservation of the trip.
It was a shame to see the food quality drop off over the years.
The kids didn't really notice, but my wife and I did.

Perhaps they've improved the quality?
I know the menu remains the same according to the story, but it would be nice to see if the quality has improved.
It used to be very good.
In any even, were we to get the family together for another trip, we would still make Coral Reef our first reservation just for old times sake.
