Contemporary vs. Boardwalk

The Contemporary is a beautiful resort, don't get me wrong. But when I say there is no special theming, I mean in the sense of AKL or the YC/BC or The Boardwalk or the Polynesian, etc. The Contemporary is just a really nice hotel, exactly the same way the Swan and Dolphin are really nice hotels. It's not a knock on those places, they just don't have that unique theming that so many people seem to love.

Yes, all of the other deluxe resorts and the mods for that matter, have a more obvious and defined theme. On top of that, most of them also do an exceptional job at immersing the visitor in that concept. Still...and this may all come down to personal interpretations...I feel the Contemporary can't be lumped in with the Swan and Dolphin. Mind you, the Swan and Dolphin are great places to stay, but those really do feel like nice conference hotels to me. I don't get that sort of flat conference vibe from the Contemporary. And like I noted, it may be all personal interpretations, but to me- the Contemporary just feels more Disney than any other resort. Still- that's me :)

Now, you're not alone. Plenty of others share your feelings on the Contemporary theme/vibe/decor/etc. and there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone is going to have their personal takes on these things. I mean, how many people adore the Poly and me... well, it just leaves me cold. It's not a bad hotel- in fact, the rooms are nicely appointed and large- but it doesn't transport me like some of the other themed resorts.

It is funny though that you bring up unique theming. I recall hearing that when the GF opened, the Del Coronado in San Diego made a number of funny jabs at Disney for copycatting their hotel.

Oh well...at least WDW offers lots of resorts so there are things that can appeal to a wide array of people with varied preferences.

Plus, you're not exactly going to see a massive Mary Blair mural anywhere but the Contemporary. Just the mere thought of Mary Blair and I can't help but think 1960s Disney. On top of that, the monorails running through the place and the squeals of character M&G joy erupting from Chef Mickey's just oozes Disney. It is the ONLY WDW resort that isn't trying to be "someplace else." - well, at least out of the deluxe and mods. While I love BW and love the Jersey shore with my grandfather nostalgia evokes... again, Jersey Shore...not Disney. I still love BW, but it still doesn't give me the same intense Disney vibe that I get from the Contemporary.
Very well said. Totally agree

Either way, you can't go wrong with any Deluxe imo.

I'd base my decision off what park you'll be at more. Boardwalk is very convenient for Epcot and HS. Contemporary is convenient for MK and Epcot. Whatever days you do more at the parks choose that resort. We love Epcot so we like the the hotels bear there. BC is our favorite but Voardwalk is great also.
