Good Morning..Phew! It's 8.30 am and I'am sitting outside have breakfast in glorious sunshine with not a cloud to be seen, blue skies..Anyway,thanks to everyone congratulating me on my planned 2015 vacation..October...Thats 27 months away.. ...Even my DS has now got excited.Thats scary as last week he wasn't really wanting to go.Now it's a 360 turnaround. And my DW last night was watching videos on Mickeys not so scary parade..Whoa!..Hugs & Kissess..Whit is going on..??..I feel like I'am a daddy for the first time, what with all this Disney love from my wife & son,and all the congratulations from all of you...Freeze the story right there..Here's my question..What makes a Disney vacation so different than any other vacation.? Example. This year I booked a 10 night vacation in Andalusia at a 4 star hotel & spa..Family reaction.."Oh yea! ok honey, that'll do" was my wife's." Where are we going dad,oh you mean Spain, yawn." And when I'am asked by friends the reaction is similar." Oh that will be nice" ..Yet when I plan a WDW in over two years away,it's champagne & roses..o_O...Why? Why? Why?..

Because Disney is Magical! We went to Cape Cod to the in-laws cottage last year for a week big deal, sitting in the sand baking all day and having to do most of the cooking at night. My in-laws are Irish, they boil a roast if you know what I mean, but I digress. DW, DS and I also went to Toronto and Niagara Falls, without the in-laws, which was much better but still not Disney. Disney is Magical.

I think its a perception thing. People perceive big $$ with Disney travel. Try telling people you're going on a cruise. "Oh? Which one?" Tell 'em Carnival or any other cruise line and its no big deal. But if you tell them its a Disney cruise its a whooooole other reaction. Even people who cruise regularly look at Disney's product and label it expensive. But, honest, it doesn't have to be. I've priced cruises on many different cruise lines. The only real difference I see in pricing is during peak travel times which we don't go then anyway. So I really do think its largely a perception thing with the brand. Ya know?

Tell me about it! We went to Hershey and spent the same amount of money per day if not more and everybody's reaction was why did you only go for a week to that area. But when I had free travel expenses and went to Disney for a week it was are you crazy!

I have the conversation weekly, People think I'm crazy for going to Disney almost every year but have no problem spending their money for season tickets to local sports teams or owning big toys like boats, motorcycles etc. I try to tell them that if it makes you happy, relaxes you and is your hobby or passion it's the same thing, but they don't seem to get it.

Yep, we typically get the sarcasm and sideways looks: "Must be niiiiice to be a high roller." We're not. Our priorities are different. We don't go to movies and do a lot of extras. We prefer to travel. And, I have a way of finding where the bargains are. My sis-in-law & I were talking about this the other day.

They know they are going to have a pixie colored wonderful time at WDW. All three of you have many memories to relive, and you all know there will be new ones made. Even a teenage boy can recognize that!;)

Disney is just an overwhelming, all consuming, in a good way vacation. It is more familiar than any other vacation spot. Everyone knows something about Disney. Spain is beautiful I am sure. However, I can't remember the last time I saw advertising for a resort in Spain.
Agree..The main reason I booked it was,it was reduced on the web site with a massive saving.$$$$$$$$$. The last time I was in Spain was when I was a teenager in Ibiza. That was way back in the 60's...

I guess like anything, it all depends on what you like. We all have different likes and to some adults Disney is a place for kids. They don't approach it with the same mindset that they approach more "adult vacations." Disney is a family vacation and if you give it a shot you'll get caught up in it. I think that's what we've done. Also if you have kids where else are you going to go? As a kid my parents took us to Mexico, and a few other places and I hated it because "it wasn't Disney." Outside of the beach there was nothing for us. My kids enjoy it and I get wrapped up in all the Disney fun too. Disney can be a little pricey but it doesn't have to be. We only do value resorts when we go. We've stayed off site too because we drive. Since we want to see everything we can, moderate and deluxe doesn't work for us. Plus those hotels are elegant. Value are over the top and playful and I think that's more the Disney experience. We also eat offsite and bring snacks. Like any vacation, Disney is designed to get as much money out of you. You just have to be a little smart about it.
