Comfort level when it comes to someone watching your child.

Hi all. So when my kids were young, we did not feel comfortable letting just random strangers watch our kids, especially when they were very young. Like some people will hire a local teen to watch their kids without even knowing them. I saw a post on a FB group about someone going to Aulani and they have an 18 month old that they want to leave with someone while they go out on excursions. Can someone please explain to me how you feel comfortable leaving your young child with a stranger like this. I think about how confusing and scary it would be for the child also. We can't keep our kids safe all the time, but we should do what we can, shouldn't we? We hear about these horror stories of babysitters hurting and killing little kids. I just couldn't do that. How do you all do it?
