Clear Skies, Full Bellies...Can't Lose! A September 2012 Trip Report

Well…since it’s now been 1 month since I’ve been in Disney and I have received my Disney Photopass – I don’t have any more excuses to not start this trip report. So…let’s get this show on the road.

For those of you who don’t know me…I’m Jess.

P1030167_zps7f11183f.jpg

Here’s my stats:
Number of Trips – this is trip #8
Favorite Park – EPCOT
Favorite Ride – Spaceship Earth
Favorite Disney snack item – Mickeys Cookies n Cream Ice Cream Sandwich
Favorite Disney Character – Ursula the Sea Witch

And traveling with me is my fiancé, Bill.

P1030435_zps451ea205.jpg

His stats:
Number of Trips - this is his 6th
Favorite Park – Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride – The Haunted Mansion
Favorite Disney snack item – Red velvet cream cheese cupcake from Starring Rolls
Favorite Disney Character – Winnie the Pooh

This is our 5th trip together – once a year since we started dating. And on our last trip in May 2011…THIS happened…

P1020480.jpg

Well I guess it’s not really a surprise since I already called him my fiancé and wrote a whole trip report on it.Here’s the link if you want THAT whole story…

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...s-and-a-proposal-may-2011-trip-report.796403/

But to cut to the chase: He proposed at night by the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth.

P1020479.jpg

I cried. It was absolutely perfect. And I’ve yet to read any other stories of people getting proposed to in front of SSE…which makes it even more magical. (And if you know of one – keep it to yourself. Hahaha!)

This trip was born not long after our trip in May. My fiancé is in med school and his school works with 11 months of rotations and 1 month off. Bill’s month off was September. So we decided to go then and too go for our longest trip ever (8 days!) and to bump up resort levels after staying at POP Century for 4 trips. So this trip we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We chose it for the intimate size of the resort, the fact that it had a sister resort we could utilize and neither of us had stayed there before. Spoiler alert – we absolutely fell in love with the resort ! But we also bumped up an extra day because - this will be OUR (notice – not MY) last trip until 2014. We have a wedding date set for October 12, 2013…and we are NOT doing a Disneymoon.

I know…we’re crazy. But we’ve been there together so many times already and plan to go so many times after the wedding that we wanted a honeymoon that is unique and special. Plus – my Disney trips are anything but relaxing. And I want a honeymoon that is basically – sleeping, drinking, eating, and…other stuff that I wouldn’t talk about on a family site but you get my drift. Pure relaxation. And at Disney – I’m sun up to sun down kinda girl. Plus I’m going with my mom and sister in March 2013 and probably for a few days in September before or after my WDWMAGIC GIRLS CRUISE! Check out all the info on this awesome cruise happening with some fantastic ladies of wdwmagic!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...agic-girls-cruise.816925/page-46#post-5173681

Ok. Enough with the explanations and shameless plugs for girl cruises (which again is September 8th – 12th 2013…plenty of girls still looking for roomies!) Let’s get on with the show!!!

September 11th, 2012

Work all day – blah. But at night…my sister, mom and I were going to see Jersey Boys in Pittsburgh. Every year on my sister and my birthdays…we buy each other tickets to see whatever musicals are playing in Pittsburgh. This year nothing great fell ON my birthday (October 15th) but Jersey Boys was playing mid September and I had never seen it.

330x235

I loved the show and was totally worth the 12:30AM bedtime that followed the show.

September 12th, 2012

Boy…2:45 AM comes really quickly when you pour yourself into bed at 12:30. We were up and moving (albeit quite slowly) finishing packing and such. Bill’s friend from med school came to pick us up and take us to the airport. We were flying out of the Pittsburgh airport but flying into the Latrobe airport because Latrobe is about 15 minutes from our house. But they had no outbound flights on this day. ANYWAY…we fly through security – grab a bagel & pumpkin spice latte to split and we’re on the plane at 6:05 AM. Touchdown in Orlando at 8:10am. Then I saw this and squealed like a school girl…

P1030043_zpsaf461bff.jpg

WOO HOO WE’RE HERE. Well almost. We head through DME and we were on a bus at 8:45 ready to head to our home for the next 8 days…

We had yet to eat anything yet...so we went to Sunshine Seasons and got the breakfast platter.

We decided to do an Agent P Mission and head over into World Showcase

P1040184_zpsbe8efcaa.jpg

The mission was in Norway. So of course we needed some snacks. This day was going to be ALL about using up the last of our snack credits/counter service meals. Which means LOTS of food and unfortunately lots of wasted food.

It's not that they weren't good...but they were just..."meh." Onto the mission!

I got this...
P1040225_zpsae381467.jpg

Bill loved his. And I was sadly disappointed by mine. It was on my "must try" list since last trip. But it was not good. And I was angry. And smelling sauerkraut. MORE FOOD WILL EASE MY PAIN OF BAD FOOD....

P1040227_zps3743f584.jpg

P1040228_zps52c80524.jpg

You know what was really good about this meal? THE COKE. That's it. One bite of the frankfurter and one bite of the apple thing. Both were blech. More wasted food.

We headed back to the front of the park. EPCOT time is coming to a close. Which means...the last of the SSE photoshoots.

P1040232_zps78d535f7.jpg

We rode SSE then went to the monorail. We were going to ride to MK but we weren't hungry and it looked like rain. So we decided to just ride the EPCOT loop. So we rode it out to the TTA then back to the park to go through my beloved EPCOT once more.

P1040235_zps6f1e83c8.jpg

That's not a happy sky.

And with that...we left EPCOT. Then I remembered that EPCOT had EMH. MOTHERF THIS IS NOT THE LAST YOU'VE SEEN OF ME - EPCOT!!! (Which means that was NOT the last of the SSE Photoshoots...muwahahaha!)

Good thing we didn't go to MK - as you saw from the pics it had indeed started to POUR down rain. So we went back to POFQ. We did a little packing (vomit)and took a nap.

UP NEXT: Our last Disney dinner and a fitting Disney departure.

What a cliffhanger!! Now I can't wait for the Up Next.

I am now drooling after looking at all those pictures of desserts. How disappointing that the ones you got weren't tasty. :( That's enough to make anyone grouchy. Stuff should taste as good as it looks.

Your pink-and-green shirts are adorable (a-dork-able, maybe even!!) We did the matchy thing once, with denim shorts and white polo shirts (minnie polo for me, mickey for him); it was fun. I like the way you do "almost-matching" by wearing different colors of the same shirt, and you guys make it look good.

Oh, and maybe I'm just filthy-minded, but that opened-up troll's head looks like...well, something that sure doesn't belong in a family-friendly theme park!! :p :D

I learned a very valuable lesson in Disney treats this trip - if it ain't broke...don't fix it. Meaning if I've found a delicious snack somewhere...don't NOT get it in favor of trying other stuff because why waste your precious belly room on a less than stellar snack. But I guess without trying you'll know if you're missing you. So I should just get all possible snacks? Yes - that is the lesson here.

We are super cheesy and dorky in our matching Disney gear. I love it and I just don't care! I think my Christmas cards for next year will be us in our Minnie Mickey shirts w/our Christmas ears on...to really solidify the cheesiness of our relationship to our friends and family not on this board.

Well I had to scroll back up to check out the troll's head...and I see what you see. Hahaha.

September 19th continued...

After our nap - we boarded the first bus that came up and then hopped into the Animal Kingdom Lodge bus line. We arrived at Kidani Village

P1040243_zps262ed8a9.jpg

P1040244_zpsf31d39e6.jpg

Our dinner tonight was at Sanaa. Which we had been pronouncing incorrectly (we had been saying Sauna and it's Sah-nah) We had eaten here once before - and we absolutely LOVED. The atmosphere is great (seeing all the animals) and it's a bit of a hidden gem as there is usually no one there.

P1040245_zpsa1c60d48.jpg

P1040246_zps16f4d26b.jpg

We had a great view right against the windows. And this little guy chilled with us for most of the meal.

P1040248_zps5893a1e0.jpg

P1040249_zps4c217579.jpg

We both ordered the trio thing with rice. I got the Beef Tips and Red Curry Chicken

P1040250_zpse0c90f19.jpg

Bill got the Spicy Shrimp and the Spicy Durban Chicken

P1040252_zps4c13b049.jpg

Next time...I am going to get 2 orders of the beef tips. Those things are so freaking delicious! Like really fantastically delicious. One of my all time favorite things I've ever eaten at Disney. Bill liked his spicy stuff too.

For dessert - Bill got this

P1040254_zps22b3a7f5.jpg

P1040255_zps259e993b.jpg

I don't remember what it was called but Bill said it was his favorite dessert of the trip.

I got the dessert sampler because it was the only way to get the Chai Creme. It didn't come in it's own dessert. Otherwise - I would have gotten THAT because I adore that dessert.

P1040256_zps889027a1.jpg

I am going to ask if I can have all beef tips and all chai creme next time. Both of those are in my top Disney foods. I could live in a cup of Chai Creme.

P1040260_zpse11ea89b.jpg

We then took a bus to DHS. We had just 1 thing left on our Disney to do list and if you can tell by my avatar...it's one of my favorites! We walked around and rode a few things.

P1040266_zpsfc534fc3.jpg

P1040267_zpse6326405.jpg

Then we rode the GMR and got the gangster scene. Now that I had done both sides this trip - I can say that I like the "gangster" storyline more and the actor was more into it than the Cowboy. But the cowboy effects are pretty cool too. It's a win-win!

Then we headed over to see Fantasmic! Originally I told Bill that we wouldn't see it this trip because I always make him wait over an hour to get good seats because I love it so very much. He likes the show but not the long wait. So eventually I compromised saying we wouldn't wait in the long line and just try for seats about 15 minutes before the show. So that's what we did.

As we walk into the amphitheater - they announce the show is now "standing room only" Well now...Bill is getting an earful on the way up about "I TOLD YOU WE HAD TO COME EARLY! YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME. THIS IS WHY WE WAIT!" I was angry. And then Bill proceeds to walk down the middle section and find 2 seats on the end - totally empty. Uh..."Babe you were right...we could find seats! Good job!" But I still heard about it later..

P1040268_zps58bbcaa7.jpg

I totally cried when the music started initially and then again when Steamboat Willie came out.

P1040270_zps404c0b1c.jpg

P1040272_zps21ab8a7b.jpg

After the BEST FIREWORKS SHOW EVER...we hopped the boat to EPCOT as DHS had closed and EPCOT had EMH.

We got into EPCOT and headed to World Showcase to ride Maelstrom and 3 Caballeros. We then did some shopping and just waltzing around. I was obviously upset that we were just hours away from leaving Disney World. Bill kept saying "We can stay...what do you want to do?" I want to stay here FOREVER. Blah. Eventually we headed towards the front of the park.

P1040275_zpsa70674ea.jpg

And THAT is the last SSE photo of the trip. The last park picture all together. Fitting, really. And then we rode SSE and headed home. Yes - I shed a tear.

We got on the POFQ bus and headed back. Finished a little packing and went to bed.

September 20th

We slept in - alarm at 8:30. Finished our packing. Called for a late checkout (our DME was at 11:45) and we had until noon. We walked over to Riverside to have breakfast. We did a bit more shopping in the gift shops and then went back to POFQ to chill in the lobby. DME came and picked us up. I slept on the bus a little which Bill said was good because I missed most of the video that compels you to return. Apparently I usually nag him about coming back during this video  I don't remember anything of the sort! :D

We then got to the airport - checked our bags and headed into the Disney store for any last minute purchases.

WAIT. THEY HAD A BIG 25 VINYLMATION BOX. If you remember I said only 1 of the Rapunzel/Wheezy duo would make it to the end. Throughout the whole trip - we kept getting the Occupation Series: Chef. We kept saying how DUMB it was and figured we would probably pick it again. Well we did pick the Occupation Series but it was NOT the Chef....

P1040276_zps88aa8052.jpg

DOCTOR VINYLMATION! For a dude in med school - this was a pretty perfect one to get. We were both squealing a bit. In the end - we traded Rapunzel. I'm not a Princess person and Wheezy is just too damn cute to trade away. But what are the odds that we find one we wanted at the LAST possible trading spot? And a Doctor Vinylmation looks perfect on Bill's desk in his office. EEK I was so excited. It kind of killed my Disney blues...for a little, anyway.

Got something to eat in the Food Court. Headed to the plane - no problems on the flight - landed at the Latrobe Airport at 5. We got our bags and my sister picked us up...we were home by 5:30.

And that was that! Another successful trip in the books. I'm not sure anything can top an engagement trip but each trip is memorable and wonderful. The fact that Bill and I have spent a lot of time apart due to his medical rotations - 8 days with just him was pure bliss. Walking through the parks we were content to just be together because we hadn't had that in months. That made this trip exactly what we needed - time away from work and time together. Throw in Disney World and fantastic food and...what more does a girl need?

This is OUR last trip together for at least a year. But I will be going down in March with my sister and my mom (GIRLS TRIP!) and probably a few days before or after the GIRLS CRUISE!! (Check out the cruising section of this forum for more info!) so I will get my Disney fix in! Keep your fingers/toes crossed that Bill gets a residency in Florida and then we can go all the time!! That's the dream!

Thanks for reading!!

Hey, Jess! Okay. So last night, 2 am-ish, I got all caught up and finished off your report. I soooo wanted to post then but I'm certain my tap-tap-tapping on the keyboard while laying in bed would've woke Mr.Sleeping Beauty (or Snoring Beauty, he kills me). I've had a few hours sleep here & there and several more doses of cold meds since so I'm trying really hard to remember what all I wanted to comment on. I know, I now officially qualify for worst roomie EVER. Let's see what I can conjur from my brain here:

1. Your use of "motherf*ckin" a few times made me think: "Oh, I may be in the clear if I am drinkin' and forget myself on the girls cruise!" because....uh....well....my dad AND step-dad were both sailors back in the days when sailors were considered b@d@ss. I grew up with 3 older brothers. If I wasn't already a master of the art of swearing before I was locked in a small secure concrete building with no windows at 12 hours at a whack when I worked in law enforcement communications I would've been after those 4 years. When I'm around others it's like this conscious effort to act like a lady and talk like one, too. But when I'm relaxed and being me I can make the burliest of old-school sailors blush without much effort. LOL! Is it a sign that the use of that one word more than once stood out to me? Hhmmm....

2. Y'all with your matchy-match but not really shirts are too stinkin' adorable. We used to do that! When Tracey & I did 9 nights at WDW without the boys in May '08 I ordered us 2 or 3 custom matching shirts from Zazzle. They photograph so well! It's just cute! I won't call it cheesy. It's so sappy it's adorable. I, for one, love it!

3. I saw you put ketchup on some eggs at Crystal Palace! I bet you're now thinking, "? THAT is what she notices?!?!" Yep! I do that, too! On scrambled I will do ketchup sometimes but if salsa is available that's something I enjoy, too. On over-medium eggs or even where the yolk is cooked hard I cannot stomach the yolk (flavor & texture) without ketchup. The first time Tracey saw me eat my runny yolk fried eggs with ketchup he looked like he was going to be sick. It was hysterical. So, yeah, I spot someone else putting ketchup on an egg and it's a total high-five moment for me! You don't happen to eat mayo on fries, do ya?

4. I love all the snackin' y'all did! I say this as I snuck my way onto the scale at the pediatrician last week and shed a tear. I haven't run in so long. I've got to get with it! I love that you ate all your indulgences without batting an eye and know how hard you worked to allow yourself to do that. I need to do that! **sniffle sniffle** But...oh...yuuuuuummy at your pics! Next month when we're at WDW for our one day I'm thinking about ditching the family long enough to make a run by the Boardwalk Bakery for a treat between morning EMHs at Epcot and the MK.

5. Cannot wait for the girls cruise! It's gonna sooooo rock! Eeeeeeeee!!!!!

Thank you for sharing this great trip report!! I laughed so much! I love the wedding pavilion part. I am putting that lapu lapu drink at the top of my list to try. I truly admire you for getting out so early every morning. I wish my family would understand that concept. They refuse to get up so early. Best wishes to you and your fiancee!

Yes. I do not use the most 'lady-like' phrases from time to time. It happens. I don't have sailor relatives to blame for it - I just sometimes get too excited/angry/upset to NOT use the F bomb. Haha. It happens. No judgement here!

I like the matching shirts! I think they make for great photos. And Bill is a good sport about it - as long as it's not TOO cheesy - he cooperates. I prefer adorable but I'll take cheesy...I love wearing matching shirts and I'm not afraid to say it!!

Ketchup on EVERYTHING. I'm a Heinz girl obviously as I'm from Pittsburgh but it really is the best ketchup. And I only use it on scrambled eggs - over easy eggs just need toast. I also eat my mozzarella sticks with ketchup which people tell me is weird. And I've had it with Mac n Cheese but I don't prefer it that way - but it wasn't bad! I do not eat mayo with anything. But Carrie Underwood eats her fries with mustard if that helps. I usually prefer really good ranch with my fries (like bar ranch...not bottled crap)

SNACKS. Oh my GOD I'm hungry right now. At Disney I'm never even that hungry because my mind is on rides - not food. But it's like "I know this is yummy - so I want to eat it" and I usually do! The treadmill is going to take a beating come January 1st when my wedding diet starts (again....)

I really can't wait for the Girls Cruise. I asked for a few Disney Cruise books for Christmas. This way I can read up and not have to ask so many questions. Luckily I have an AWESOME roomie who is a cruise vet so I know I'm in good hands!

I am a huge fan of Disney mornings. You get a lot more accomplished. I get Bill to get up that early but allowing afternoon naps. Lapu Lapus are deliciously dangerous! They are strong but still good. My 2nd was so strong I had to chug it to get it down...I think that's what did me in! Thanks so much for reading!

Hey Jess, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed reading your trip report. Now I have some great ideas on what to eat on my next trip. Everything looked soooooo dang good. I'm looking forward to reading the next trip report!!!

Thank you for reading! Yup food is a big part of my trips - I actually made a check list of food I wanted to try in Disney so that when we were hungry I could point us in the right direction. It was a great way to plan! I obsess over the menus and pictures of food...which helps my plan but makes me so hungry!

So I'm at work and wanted to fill the rest of my lunch hour reading your trip report but for some reason none of the pictures are loading on my computer :( so i will get back to it later! :D

And I hope you liked my instagram pictures :)

Well...your work computer is stupid. Haha! I both enjoyed and cursed your Instagram pictures. Like...OH WOW THATS SO PRETTY IM SO GLAD SHES HAVING FUN....lucky b*tch. Ha! :p

Omg i loved your report,Awesome!1 I too think the red velvet is disneys best cupcake and prefer the citrus swirl over the dole whip(although i firmly believe it would be even better with amaretto in it)And if I drooled at any food pics it was definitely the chocolate caramel pineapple in germany, thats the stuff dreams are made of!!!

Thank you!!! I think on my next trip...I'll try the dole whip w/o the float. I think the combo of pineapple juice w/the ice cream was too much sugar for me. I do love pineapple and never did get around to the chocolate/caramel pineapple. It'll be on my list for the next trip!!
