Which is more secure and/or convenient? Charging things your purchase to your room, or using your regular credit card..

Hmm, they're pretty much the same to me. I really like charging to the room, I find it more convenient having everything on one bill that is slipped under your door on the day of your checkout. I only used my Credit Card when I was off grounds.

I would say that charging to your room in a way could be safer. Their is less transactions on you credit card if you charge it all to your room. Ive never had this choice b/c my parents dont ever let our room keys have the charging feature. If I had this I would use the convenience of charging to the room so I wouldnt have to see so much on my credit card.

Or you can be real safe and just use cash. But then you have to keep track of that. Why cant money just grow on tress????

because with inflation, it wouldn't matter anyway, except you wouldn't HAVE to work, but if many people did this the economy would collapse. also, doesen't paper come from trees? so money in a way does grow on trees.

I'd go w/the room card. It's easier to cancel your room card if it's lost or stolen, then it is w/your credit card, especially while on vacation. Also, if it IS stolen, there's less money on the room card than your credit card.

The charge to your room card is very convenient. Then you don't have to carry a ton of cash. It's easier to replace than a credit card which is especially important if this is your main money source for the trip as it usually is in our case. If we lost our credit card while visiting the parks I don't know what we'd do. We always keep it in our hotel safe. Another plus is that the bill comes at the end of the trip so you know exactly how much you have spent in the parks upon checkcout. You don't have to phone the card company or wait for the statement. Plus, if you're anything like us, using a credit card for purchases might lead to a telephone book sized credit card statement.

Ha, ya, I've had that. I hate it when they mail you your bill in a special size envelope. You known there is trouble inside! The room key thing makes sense. I do not want to loose the credit card.. thanks for the advice

Yeah...we've actually done WDW with NO CASH at all!

Your room key charge is easy to carry and you can leave your other stuff in your room safe. You can use it for all your food and souvenirs!

At the end of your trip, your itemized bill is delivered to your door which makes tracking your purchses very easy!

HAVE FUN...and BE SAFE!

I always just used the charge to the room feature if i ever just wanted a snack or something in the parks and used my credit card to buy anything more substantial. But then again, like everyones been saying it all depends on how you want your bill to come... in the end your paying the same amount. Just dont forget to keep a mental track of your spending. its easy to rack up a big bill by being able to just put stuff on your room card. People are more inclined to be more responsible with a credit card because through conditioning, but its easy to use a little card with mickey on it over and over again cause its fun!.... maybe thats just me though...

I still use traveler's checks.... I budget for each day and only take that amount in checks with me that day. Credit Cards and Room Keys are soooo easy to over extend with. Nothing worse than paying for a Disney trip for 2 years AFTER you get home... :D
Stay within your budget and you get to go back the next year. :sohappy:

We never use the room charge because I know if we did, we'd have a huge bill to pay at the end since it's easy to whip the card out and charge a pina colada (or two..or three) at the pool or get a couple of souveniers here and there. I prefer cash so that I can budget my day and there are no surprises. But I can see how this would be really inconvenient!

Room Charge vs. Credit Card - I'd use my Disney Visa to get points toward my next trip :)

While on the subject of charging to the room...

If we have 3 adults staying in the same room, is it possible to get a "split" bill for one of the room keys?

This way my mother in law wouldn't have to carry around her check card or cash, and we wouldn't have to spend on hour on the last day splitting the bill ourselves :)

thanks!

Sounds like you've hit the nail right on the head - a great example

It's always good to have a couple bucks in cash on you. Because if the wireless system goes down (especially on the carts), it's impossible to get snacks. Happened to me last year in the evening. I needed a beverage but the rain and lightning had knocked the system offline. So they could only do cash transactions - which I didn't have!

My wife and I charged everything to the room key for the 1st time on our last trip. We both found it very convienent and the itemized bill in the morning was very helpful in tracking all of our purchases and total amount spent. I would deffinently recommend it to anyone. Good point to wdwprincess too, it is much easier to cancel a room key and get another one while your on your vacation, then call the credit card company and wait for a replacement.

See, I use my room card then pay for that with my Disney Visa. So...I still get the points but my Disney Visa stays securely in my room safe.

I like the room card because my kids are teenagers and I can give them charging privileges if I want to and we don't all have to be together.

I would have to say charge it to the room. WDW gives you a limit. Good thing for me. Somehow I always worry about maxing out that limit. Never do thank goodness. Wouldn't take much though.... I LOVE CREDIT CARDS...what a terrible thing.

I would check with your credit card company. You have allot of perks you may not know about. Say if there is problems with the merchandise you bought, or its stolen, etc., some credit card companies will reimburse, work on your behalf, etc, to resolve the problem. If you charge it to your room, then pay the room bill, you may not be able to utilize any of the bennies of your credit card company.....just a thought.

You have certain legal rights with a credit card (less with a debit/check card) that you might not get with a room key charge. I have always felt better about just using our credit card or cash. One thing about the room key charge is that you could see any discrepancies before you left, and get them resolved before you get home.
