Greetings all from the Geek Labs

I know this was mentioned in an earlier thread. I think there may be an error on this posting off the cast portal or I am having a blonde moment (I can say that I am Blonde)

Goofy's Country Dancin' Jamboree will soon evolve into an enhanced character experience in mid to late September at the Magic Kingdom® Park. The current show will have its last performance on Saturday, September 4, 2004.

Once this experience begins, (huh) Guests will have the opportunity to interact with our Disney Characters: Jesse, Woody, and Bullseye throughout the day.

I realize that people want to have the opportunity to get pictures and autographs of the characters - my family included. However, I think it was more exciting when you just happened to find them randomly in the parks.

Well said. Nothing like the spontaneity of bumping into your favorite character. Meet 'n' Greets are surpriseless.

I agree, in 2000 we were in Epcot, Morroco i believe, when just out of the corner of my eye I saw something, backed up and standing there like a statue was Jafar, noone was around. It looked really cool since he really fit in with his surroundings.

Are you all maybe being a little hard on the meet and greets? It is one thing to say there may be too many of them, or that they are choking the C-ticket attractions out of the parks, but to say they are not spontaneous?

Think about this. Before meet and greets, and even now, you might encounter Alice or Tweedledum & Tweedledee where? Outside the teacups. You might encounter Captain Hook & Smee where? Near Pirates of the Carribean. Any assortment of characters outside the train station just inside the park. It might have been "random" to you, (i.e. Jafar in Morocco) but to the cast members who work there everyday, those same or similar characters were there at that spot everyday. I used to see the Cinderella female mice just outside the bank every time I worked the night shift on Popcorn 1 (aah, memories. ).

Now think about the kid who really wants to meet Mickey Mouse for a one on one meeting - not a parade or show appearance. His parents stop at Magic Kingdom's Bank/City Hall terrace - not there. They go to Fantasyland - No Mickey. They tromp all over the park to places where they have seen Mickey Mouse appear from time to time - no dice. Is it not a good thing to be able to know that if you go to wherever at whenever time, Mickey WILL be there?

Or think about the family who isn't as detail oriented. They are going through Frontierland, see the saloon and decide to see what's inside - OOOH, there's Sherriff Woody! How exciting! Let's get a picture = spontaneous to them.

In closing, a new attraction is greater than another meet and greet, which is greater than another empty building or pin shop. :)

When you mentioned random encounters in Epcot it reminded me of something. ( Though your find of Jafar is really cool !)
Last spring was the first time I'd ever seen the "living statue" girl. She was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL !!!!! She moved so sloooooowly that most people rushed on past and didn't even notice. We got the most incredible pictures of her with my youngest, who had just turned 4.

This week's Woman's World paper has a picture in it that I'm almost certain is the same girl. She's amazing !

heh... Disney PR are the ultimate spin Doctors. "No, the show wasn't cancelled. We just removed the elements of the show that involve song, dance, actors, and talent."

Didn't I announce this almost a week ago?

We just got some more specs.

How sad. A CLASSIC MK favorite (which had NO PROBLEMS), replaced by a cheap show, and now a MEET AND GREET?

This is the second Disney case this week that I've thought of that proves, "Yes! It can get worse!"

Tossing this out for members who have done character work...

Since many of us have criticized management for putting too much of the "bottom line" into their decision making process, any input on what would cost Disney more: A) Having several meet 'n' greets set up around the parks, with characters in place a good deal of the day, not to mention the CM's to help with line control, etc.....or......B) Having less meet 'n' greets, with more random placement of occasional character meetings?

My initial guess (and guess it is) is that it would cost Disney less for less meet 'n' greets and more random placement. I would be interested in the opinions of CM's on which might cost Disney less.

With all due respect to the performers of GCDJ (Sara Jo - you know I love you, girl), I don't think the show cancellation is a surprise. At least the times I've seen it, small children were intimidated by the noise and lights, and parents worried about their kids getting trampled. And I think the country dancing craze peaked in 1998. JMHO.

On a related note, GCDJ is similar to the Aloha dinner show at the Polynesian. The performers are obviously talented, but the show elements and storyline aren't Disney-caliber, and it drags the whole production down. I mean, good lord, it's a show full of half-dressed, good-looking twenty-somethings who twirl flaming batons. With beer. How do you screw that up?

Perhaps the meet & greet is a placeholder until a better idea can be developed. If nothing else, let's go back to the Diamond Horseshoe stage shows again.

Are you referring to this sara jo? If so... I haven't written in this thread until right now! Sorry! In fact, I've never even seen this show (GCDJ), so I had no views on it's demise, etc.

Is there some other Sara Jo on this board? If there is, sorry for intruding on this thread!

Hope you all have a great evening! Oh... by the way, my daughter would love to see Woody at a meet-n-greet, but personally, I'm a little tired of the meet-n-greets... except for the one with Mickey- I can accept that one because everybody wants to see him! And there's enough to do without having to hunt him down if he's randomly place around the park.

Possibly the performer who does the show's name is Sara Jo? I doubt she was talking about you, as you havn't said anything...

When does the meet-n-greet open? My son has always wanted to meet Bullseye, so, at least, I see a bit of a silver lining.
