Castaway Cay overnight.

Anyone know if there's ever a chance of this happening, where the ship stays overnight on Castaway Cay?

The only thing I didn't like was having to leave the beach at sundown. I could see watching the sun go down, and having a luau on the beach.

I suppose they'd need to install a lot more infrastructure to pull such a thing off, with lighting and such.

Still, night time on the beach, ahh.

Do other cruise ships overnight in ports, or is it always just a day stop, off in the morning, on at the end of the day?

I can't imagine they would because of the lights and what not.

Some cruise lines do overnight at some ports, but Castaway Cay just isn't made for it.:)

The percentage of the island that Disney uses is pretty small, I imagine Disney has at some point thought about a) staying over night and b) building some type of resort on the island, but the logistics would be pretty tough.

I wondered if at some point, they would build a resort there that you could stay at. Or, gawd forbid, DVC. Seems like a natural.

You could take a four day cruise, be dropped off for two nights, and sail back on the next cruise to stop there. They'd need to make rooms available for this.

I wouldn't put it past them!

Oh, and of course, now, there ARE people living on the island--lucky cast members. With the ship only docking there twice a week, I imagine a pretty amazing lifestyle for those CM's. Wild parties and such . . . .

I have talked to some CM's about what it is like on Castawsy Cay at night.

I have been told you do NOT want to be there. According to them there are almost no lights, and since the VAST majority of the island is unimproved, it is bug heaven. The whole area gets swarmed with them at sundown.

The handful of people that do stay on the island basically sit indoors all night.

I wonder if they'll ever build a hotel on it. The island is so big and they are only using one tiny part of it already. I'm thinking they will do some kind of expansion eventually.

You have to realize there is no, as in NONE, infrastructure there.

No power major generation, minimal if any potable water production, no natural gas. Aside from the harbor for the cruise lines, there are no other deepwater ports on the isalnd.

Putting a hotel there would be a massive undertaking. When the ship is in port, there are medical facilities, desalination plants, and the majority of the CM's working on Castaway Cay come from the ship.

When that ship leaves, it is like a ghost town.

To build a hotel would first require installing a LOT of infrastructure to support it. Then when a hurrican wipes it all out, you get to start from square one again.
