Cape May has an automated check-in booth

With all the work they’ve done to integrate everything (but most specifically dining reservations, making them feel like a must-do) into the MDE system, it always amazes me that the CMs have to manually search for your name when you arrive, just like they’ve done since 1971. It seems like this self-service version is more of the same, a high tech way of accessing a low tech system.

Putting a touchpoint on the kiosk and all normal check-in desks is such obvious low-hanging fruit that it really makes you wonder who is in charge of things. It’s a wonder it didn’t happen years ago during the initial MDE rollout.

Yes
Its not an issue limited to Cape May, its the single floor management software they use across all table service locations both in and outside the parks. The bean counters say that because its already paid for that it shouldn't be touched and any enhancements must conform to its normal operation.

Its not MDE enabled so you cant use it for proximity check-in ( al la mobile ordering, or Disney Play for the queues). From the scant information in the article, it cant accept modifications, verify any mobility requirements, or accept any seating or server requests (ask for Jan or Genisis at Cape May for Dinner).

I like it. Hopefully they can replace the waitstaff with droids soon.

There’s some info missing in this story.

OK, so you check in at the screen.

And then what? You waltz in and find a table? Obviously not - otherwise anyone can just walk in! What actually happens next? And how does the CM responsible for taking you to a table know you’ve checked in? Show them the text?

And what happens to guests who don’t have a US phone number? How do they show they’ve checked in at the podium? Are they still using the pagers for them?

Fyi, this system WILL NOT be replacing the podium cast member. It is only supplementing .

Beach Club has also added Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Goofy's voices to the elevators for when you arrive on each floor, Blog Mickey has a video.
That’s awesome...is that FREE with a $585 dollar room?
