Cancelling Comcast? Have you heard this poor guy's call?

This just illustrates in part why as soon as Verizon became available in our area we dumped Comcast (the only provider at the time).

I was lucky when I dropped Comcast as I was asked, like the guy on this call, why? Easy answer is that I moved to one of the few places they don't offer service in...yet.

Comcast is the ultimate rip off. I am lucky that my apartment has cable included so I only pay $19 additional a month for the digital packages. However, when I stayed in my house - my bill started off at $90 (I had triple play) for the first year. Then at the 13 month my rate went to $250 a month. There is no excuse for Comcast to be so expensive but in our area - its comcast or nothing.

Dropped Comcast when Uverse became available in my area.....never looked back!! :)
So did I, but now Uverse is more expensive then the other was. Once the original agreement expired it shot up like a rocket. They all rely on people not wanting the hassle of switching. I'm planning on utilizing their special rate offers, something that are not given to regular customers, every time my new agreement runs out. Yes, it's a hassle, but, it is a huge savings in cost.

Unfortunately I have to do the same thing but at least my internet works! It was constantly down with Comcast.

I don't know anything about Comcast (I have satellite). Yet, from the way the Comcast customer rep. kept trying to (feebly) hang on to the customer on the phone, it seems like there might(?) have been some sort of $ incentive for the customer reps. to do what they could, to stop any customer from dropping their service. (I have nothing to base this on, but the thought did cross my mind for a moment here.)

A decade ago I had Verizon in my apartment, and the service was so heinous I dropped them and went to Comcast and said I would never go back. A year after we bought our house (2012), Comcast jacked up our rate after a year of mediocre (at best) service (seriously... we went through 3 cable boxes in 1 year). I couldn't get our rate back down, priced out Verizon, told Comcast what I was doing, and proceeded to eat my own words. Now, I'm much happier with Verizon FiOS and Comcast has made a handful of feeble attempts to get us back, but I don't see that happening.

FIOS is the best. We've had it five years now after dumping Comcast and have had minimal issues with it, and when we've had issues, the customer service has been way better. We had the same problem as you with our Comcast boxes. The customer service was terrible and the techs are incompetent. We need to get the Verizon boxes replaced...after having them for five years.

(Hey, you're from B-more too? Cool.)

Verizon for phones sucked, but FiOS has been really impressive and reliable. I still see merit to the a la carte argument (we probably watch 20-30 channels in total... none of them ESPN) but FiOS is fine in the interim.

Yay for the B-more people!! United we can convince the world that 'The Wire' only represents about a third of the city's population!!

This is a management, training and supervision problem. Any of my customer service people treated a customer this way, they would be escorted out the door immediately.

Oh yeah, no Verizon cell phone service. I know they're like, "Our service has the best coverage," but honestly, my mom had Verizon for a few years as part of a promotion and I had AT&T, and my service was better just as far as coverage goes. FIOS home phone is fine, though.

I'm from B-more County not the city, so I can't help ya out there. ;)

I think this is par for the course in Comcast customer service. I don't know that I have heard of people with any GOOD stories to share!
