Can I leave the Carousel of Progress during the show?

A Cast Member at Disneyland got killed by the rotating theaters that used to House CoP there.

The building has tasted blood, please do not tempt it again.

i refuse to ride it anymore even though i love the ride. there is always one family that just gets up in the middle and leaves cause they aren't satisfied. i hate it say it but i hope that same family does the same thing on space mountain. hahaha. =)

No. PLEASE do not try to leave while the ride is operating. It can be very unsafe, and possibly annoying for the other guests (I once had to see the 40s 3 times in a row, because a family exiting intruded the ride).

Hey Joanna,
I have a pic of you "doing your thing" as a great CM from our last trip in November. I asked the guy if we could sit in the front, but we got the front of the second car:(, and my teenagers did NOT want to ride again. However, they thought it was cool to see someone from the website while at WDW.

Understand that I'm not saying that I plan to or even want to, I'm just trying to determine that if I decide to take my kids on it, and they go nuts, do I have an exit. Sounds like I don't. I did see a woman do it once with her kid, and the world didn't end, the show didn't stop, and we didn't have to re-watch the same scene.

Aww, I'm sorry you didn't get the front! But I hope you enjoyed the show. :)

If you have ANY inkling or premonition that you or a member of your party will not stay for the duration of the Carousel of Progress (or for any any motion based attraction) PLEASE do not go on it. The only reason you are able to exit your theater at any point during the show is in the event of an emergency like a fire or medical issue. Opening the doors causes each theater to repeat the same scene it is currently in - quite an inconvenience for four potentially full theaters and those waiting outside.

All attractions that have motion have a variety of systems to detect an intrusion. That being said it is up to you to observe the rules for your own safety. The precautions built in to the attractions and the Cast Members operating them can only go so far to protect you from an injury. Not to sound mean or harsh.

If you have any questions as to which attractions you can or cannot exit while in progress, ask at the attraction before you decide to go.

If you can't enjoy the greatest of CoP, you shouldn't be in MK or WDW. seaworld is just down the street and they have coasters! yay, coasters!

At 20 months old, I doubt there's anything on CoP that would frighten them, and the show is probably not long enough to completely bore them. I'd give it a try, but I'd hedge my bets by hitting it right after lunch while the kids are digesting. Even if the kids acted up, I wouldn't leave in the middle.

I don't want to sound like the bad guy, but I wouldn't bring a 20 month old on that. If for no other reason than if they get bored, they'll start whining and crying, disturbing everyone else. And I say that as a Dad of twin 3 year old boys. They've been to Disney 5 times, and never been on the CoP, because I don't want to disturb other people. You aren't supposed to leave in the middle of the show.

I know it's Disney and kids are kids, but you gotta try and be respectful when you can.

NO! Stay in your seats!

Very annoying when people leave

Is it more annoying than screaming kids?

As I said before, several times now, I actually witnessed someone do this, and nothing happened to the show, it didn't stop, it didn't get stuck, and nothing repeated.

On my trip last month, my husband and I were on the COP and someone got up and opened the theater door while the carousel was moving. Needless to say, the ride stopped and we were stuck inbetween two rooms. It was a bit funny and annoying at the same time that someone could be so clueless as to open the door while it was moving. At least wait until the ride stops.....

Anyway....To address the OP, if you decide to bring your child on the ride and are worried about them acting up, just sit in the back row closest to the exit. As soon as the ride is over you can run out without too many people getting a good look at you .

I just had to explain the concept of CoP to all my co-workers because I’m sitting here at my desk giggling at the thought of one person starting a chain reaction of people leaving which causes the theater to never advance. I have to say CoP is one of my favorite attractions thus I’ve seen it often and I cannot recall a time where the theater did not advance causing me to re-watch a scene.

Personally let them scream...every time someone leaves the theater a CM needs to RAC out and run around the whole building looking for the guests. Then reset the E Stop...and if they make it back in time the ride will rotate.

You are asked to remain seated by the Cast Member at the start of the show as it really is a safety concern.

why, in the wide, wide, world of sports , would you even suggest that you would want to do this.. Either ride the ride or not..

but to even ask, is like saying : Hey Can I shout FIRE in a crowded room.. ?

here is what.. plan on either riding the ride to the end.. or go and eat a turkey leg instead.. but don't ruin it for someone else due to YOUR EGO... and arrogance..

but to even start this, is more then asking for trouble.. I didn't hear you say , I am going to leave Haunted Mansion early.. or Splash mountain early.. or DUMBO EARLY..

its a ride..

ride it , or go and do something else..

Actually, it's NOT like shouting fire in a crowded room. But thanks for the hyperbole nonetheless.....

Was this directed at me (I'm the starter of this thread)? Because I don't know how "even asking" is even remotely close to shouting fire in a crowded room.

And also, what's the deal with the "don't ruin it for someone else due to YOUR EGO and arrogance." That makes no sense. I asked the question because if my kid DOES go nuts, I DON'T want to ruin it for someone else from their screaming. I don't see how this has ANYTHING to do with ego or arrogance.

And of course I didn't say anyting about leaving dumbo or whatever else early, because it isn't really even possible to do so. And as I said, I SAW SOMEONE DO THIS ON THIS ATTRACTION AND THE WORLD DIDN'T END.

I simply want to know that if my kid or kids start being disruptive to others, can I be curteous and leave so they don't ruin it for others. Taking the leap of being about ego and arrogance is just beyond me. And the fire in a crowded room thing (I rarely ever use the emoticons, but HAVE to here)

So anyway, maybe this post wasn't directed to me, but if it is, I think you may be over reacting a tad.

Do you happen to remember when this happened? Which portion of the show? I'm just guessing, if someone leaves during the first segment, no harm no fowl.

It's also possible, when that person left, they went to a CM first as opposed to just opening up the door, so the CM was able to make a judgment call (whether they were officially in a position to make that call or not I don't know) that it would be OK to leave at that particular point in the show.
