Calling Yacht Club Fans

I did it. After waffling around about where to stay on our Halloween/Birthday Trip for months, I booked us in to the Yacht Club! I started with a room at Coranado Springs, then booked a room at Swan w/a military discount. Started to get worried about kids having enough space. Teenage daughter will not share a bed with kid brother so he'd have to sleep on the floor (ouch!) Booked two rooms at the Radisson with the second room at 50% off, then started to have off property anxiety.

Considered Doubletree and Hotel Royal Plaza in Downtown Disney, also the very reliable Embassy SUites but just couldn't quite get over the great location of the Swan. Considered paying $25 a night for a rollaway there but add that to the $144 plus resort fee came to $179. I called back Shades of Green and they offered me $211 for a waterview room at the Yacht Club, which has a daybed and I said book it.
:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:
So now my heads spinning a bit:hammer:

Any comment from those who have stayed there telling me how great it is would be much appreciated!

Ew. Don't go there. Bad. :p ;)

I love the Yacht, even more than the Beach Club. It's slightly farther away from Epcot, but it's closer to the boat launch to MGM.

ENJOY!

Yacht Club is my favorite resort! We'll be back there Nov. 30 - Dec. 10 ( :sohappy: )

You're right in the middle of everything -- a close walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk. A boatride or a stroll away from the Studios. The pool is the best I've ever seen at a hotel. Beaches and Cream is great for a quick breakfast or at night (try the kitchen sink).

Ahh to be there now...

Ahh, the memories....My sister won't sleep in the same bed as my mom, and my dad and sister can't sleep in the same bed because of size. And then the little sister wouldn't sleep with anyone BUT her dad. LOL. Joyous times!

Yes it's true we all get to spend some quality time together. I've reached the point where if I can't rent a house or condo it's not a vacation for me. But so far the Disney magic has worked when we had a big enough room. If she ever starts to get cranky about going to Disney...........I guess I'll just have to leave her at home!

I'm stoked for my first Yacht Club vacation, first deluxe vacation, 12/26--1/4. Cannot wait! Looks great! But I am afraid I will miss Caribbean a great deal...

Yacht Club sounds great. Now my dilemma is....to tell or not to tell? My son thinks we're staying at the Radisson, my daughter thinks we're staying at the Swan and my poor husband is just plain sick of hearing about it.

I'm inclined to just keep it quiet until we get there, it's a birthday trip for both my kids so what about a little birthday surprise?

Only problem is 2 years ago I surprised the kids with the Polynesian instead of the expected SOG. My daughter was thrilled. My son (then 9) burst into tears:veryconfu

I'm hoping because he's a little older he could deal with the shock.

I'd hate to find myself saying "Gee, honey I know it's dissappointing not to stay at the Radisson but do you think you could just try to like the Yacht Club?":brick:

What do you all think?

Surprise them. Also, if you want to go all out, splurge on an Illuminations Cruse. For an extra amount of money, you can get chips, drinks, and cold sandwiches. :slurp:

Mabey you should just drive *past* the Radisson, and if anyone notices, just say something whitty or something.

Have fun!

I say go for the surprise!!! If your are still a little worried about his reaction, how about calling ahead and having Mickey send him a birthday card to your room.:)

Have a great time. The Boardwalk area is our favorite and we really love the YC/BC.:)

OK now this is where my devious mind starts to take over...... SOG called me back to say they had made a mistake, the rate on our first night is 269 so each night would be that rate even though the rate goes down to 211 for the remaining nights so....the wheels turning ....I told them to just make it for the 4 nights at $211 and I'll keep one night at the Radisson. We'll have a car anyway and we are spending our first night at MNSSHP for my daughter's beirthday, so we won't spend much time in the hotel anyway as our flight won't get in till 3pm.

So I guess when I get up the next day I'll just announce that I can't possibly stay in the Radisson another night, I can't stand being so far from the Magic!:D

I mean who better to torture you then your own sweet mother!:animwink:

I tend to agree with your son. I don't enjoy such surprises either.

Just curious, is it because you just like to know whats happening ahead of time? My son usually says "I just wasn't expecting it." He wants to know what is going on ahead of time.

My husband and I both like to surprise each other. To me, I like the idea that someone would go to the trouble to plan something special for me. But I know it takes all kinds which is why I'll probably have to give the little guy a heads up before we actually get there.

It just all boils down to expectations. For example, this evening I plan to have Chinese food and I am really looking forward to that meal. If, at the last minute, we changed our dinner plans and had French cuisine instead, I wouldn't enjoy it very much because I was all set for Chinese food.

I see what you mean. I had a conversation last night with him about surprises and he said the same thing. He doesn't want to be expecting one thing and get another. But he was perfectly OK with the idea that where we are staying is a surprise, in fact he kind of liked it. So I just need to let him know a surprise is coming and he will enjoy it. Thanks for the insight, it helped.:)

Your solution sounds good to me too! I grew up in Arlington (a long time ago).

The Yacht Club is fantastic. We stayed there for our honeymoon and were treated very well. In fact, when we arrived we were upgraded to a waterview because it was our honeymoon. As mentioned, it's a great location due to its proximity to EPCOT and MGM transport. We had dinner many times in the World Pavillion and watched Illuminations a few times and had the luxury of walking back to our room while most others needed to drive or bus back to their vacation places.

Beaches & Cream is the perfect time-out place and the Boardwalk is alot of fun if you just want a stroll before retiring for the night.

Have lots of fun and I'm sure your kids will have a blast especially using the pool areas there.

We stayed in Yacht Club in March this year. Great hotel, best pool for kids. Walked over to Epcot and watched fireworks with no hassle every night. Only complaint is with the buses there. Avoid them at all cost! No kidding! One bus serves three hotels and goes to water parks and downtown. It takes forever to get anywhere. Literally, an hour to get to Magic Kingdom. We even thought the first ride was a fluke and tried again, and still had long wait, full bus and miserable waste of time. Take your car.

First of all welcome to the boards!

Thanks for the tip. We will have a car so we'll be able to avoid the bus.
