We're staying at POR in May, and I've heard a lot about Boma and those Zebra Domes! How is the food overall? I'm trying to decide if maybe one night we should buzz over there for dinner...

I personally refuse to miss Boma and Le Cellier on any given trip!

The food at Boma is very good and there's a wide variety available. Some of it is spiced differently than people are used to, but nothing overly spicy or unpalatable. I love it!

I always go to the dinner line for a larger plate for the desserts, that little plate they have near the desserts just doesn't cut it!

DO IT! Boma was one of the most pleasant surprises we've had at WDW--and there have been many! We are not exactly adventuresome eaters, but we all enjoyed the selections at Boma. Take time to explore the resort, too!

Ditto. Everything. Exactly what I would say. :D

Love the desserts, though I'm not a huge fan of the Zebra Domes.

Boma is THE best buffet in the World. Not for picky eaters who only like plain American faire, so make sure you are at least a little adventurous to totally enjoy all their dishes.

Likewise Jiko, the signature dining restaurant at AKL is truly superb.

enjoy

Sounds like a plan! I'll definitely make plans to head over there one night.. can we just wing it or are reservations a must? Also.. if you'd all be so kind... what are some of the best places you'd say to get steak on property?? We're meat and potatoes people and we'll probably want a nice steak at least two nights...

Go with reservations to be safe.

For great steaks in no particular order - Le Cellier at Epcot, Yachtsman at the Yacht Club, Shulas at The Dolphin, California Grill at the Contemporary and Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

When we staid at AKL we ate at Boma's and loved it. There are many different foods, which I like as I am very adventurous when it comes to food. But even my kids who are not enjoyed it, and there are some regular food too if your not advernturous.

The food is great. There is such a great mix of American and African food. You absolutely have to save room for desserts. My favorite was the chocolate mousse. Most of the desserts have alcohol in them. It makes it extra yummy. Boma is our favorite restaurant in all of WDW.

Love Le Cellier :slurp: However my 13 year old son and husband who are strickley meat and potatoes did not like Boma's I liked it ..but I found the Zebra domes very sweet :lookaroun I know, I know how can anything that's sweet be bad...but it wasn't my fav. Overall I likes Boma's ...but the boys didn't...and with so many choices of other restraunts I'm OK with that

We like Boma, but we are very adventurous about trying different types of food. When we go to Boma, we also take the time to explore AKL as well.

Heading for the great escape.
Bomas is pretty good, but like a few places I thought the variety of offerings had changed for the worse. Still love the soups, and the salads are a little different.

Not a fan of deserts so was not overly excited by the zebra domes. I definitely prefer to eat a little later, as having raised my bunch to behave when eating out, I get more than a little peeved when families let their brood run wild.

I would say if you're not afraid to try new things and you don't want to spend the cash at Jinko and be suprised. I would go to BOMA....It's a great place to enjoy and try the flavors of Africia. Please call ahead and get a reservation or you will be waiting in line for at least 45min to get in.
I stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge at least 5 times and I have never saw that place empty or people who weren't waiting in line.
Check it out, it can't hurt, when you are done eating take a walk in the back you may catch some of the aminals roaming around. It's truly a wonderful Hotel to visit and eat at.
You can also check out the menu on line before going...

Here is a more detailed dinner menu with most of the buffet items listed

Thank you Steve.

After hearing that the adventurous eaters would like BOMA, (which my wife and I are), but my kids are picky. Its nice to see that they have a kids selection that they do eat...well pretty much everything there is what their diet consists of. I think we will have to try BOMA on our next visit. I love Ohana, (food variety, quality, presentation and atmosphere), so if it is close to them then I'll be thrilled.
