Theres no mobile order like what's happening at Pizza Planet in Tomorrowland so it appears to be retaining the usual way of getting things cafeteria style

I thought the pizza they made/sold there was abosolute crap. But their pasta dishes, specifically the chicken pesto or the spaghetti n' meatballs, were usually pretty solid.

It only seemed to formalize the reality that Disneyland can't make a pizza worth a darn. The Pizza Port pizzas are very clearly made with canned toppings, even the veggies taste/look canned there. And not only canned, but also left out on pallets in the sun for a day in the alley behind Space Mountain. That kind of canned. Disgusting. 🤮

And another thing, after looking at that menu…

Who in the holy hell is paying $40 for a really crappy cheese pizza?!? o_O

They nailed it with the flatbread pizzas when Boardwalk Pizza first opened back in 2011.

Those were the best quality pizzas I have ever had at the park!

I miss those flatbreads. If I was craving pizza at Disney, I'd cross the street to Pizza Press

I'm sure the Marketeers will quickly and proudly point out that the pizza is clearly LESS than $40. They could NEVER sell a $40 cheese pizza.

(I wonder if I could team up with your chirpy Fullerton College drone pilot. We could air-drop Costco pizzas for $20 $19.99 and make a killing.)

Friends wanted to go on Friday since it was the old school go to for us back in the before times. I'm not quite sure what they served me in my 'sun dried tomato pesto cream' pasta but the sauce was nothing like what it was before. I noticed a distinct lack of orange coloring and any resemblance of tomato flavor.

Also the place was a disaster during the late dinner rush... counter and check out CMs were absolutely clueless. We noticed a pair of young managers hiding in a corner just watching the chaos. At one point, a chef actually came out and told people how to line up as the pasta line wrapped around the soda machines and into the checkout area. We were under the impression that the chef had been at this location previously and knew how things were supposed to work.

Lastly, is it just me or are the keys being on people's phones causing delays? Seemingly every food line I've been in seems to be backed up due to people having to get out their phone, open their app, pull up their pass... and it not working sometimes etc.

Families with a bunch of kids to feed. Most of the food at the resort is (at best) mediocre and overpriced. This works out to be a reasonably-priced mediocre meal for multiple people. Especially if some of those people are kids that will eat any pizza you put in front of them.

And, this mediocre pizza is better than the truely awful pizza in Tomorrowland. (At least it was in the before times.)

I guess I get it. And yet... I don't get it. A large cheese pizza is such an easy thing to compare/contrast to. I just checked my menu I keep in the kitchen; there's a pizza place down the hill 5 minutes from me called Marri's. It's a real Italian-American pizzeria, family owned since 1957, and they also have one location on Katella just two blocks from the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Their cheese pizzas go for $14.95 for a "Large" 16 inch pie, or $17.95 for an "Extra Large" 18 inch pie. Their specialty deluxe pizza is called the Matterhorn Pizza (because of their location near Disneyland), with basically everything on it (onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives, ground beef, pepperoni, salami, sausage) and it's $27 for an Extra Large.

I guess I'm just stunned at the testicoli (as the Italians say) required to charge $40 for a large cheese pizza. That's not even very good.

Well, true. But there are prisoners at the California State Prison in Corcoran who enjoy prison cafeteria pizza that is better than the pizza in Tomorrowland.

The Pizza Port pizza is very clearly made with cheap canned ingredients, but they taste as though all the cans were left out on a pallet to sit in the sun for two days in the alley behind Space Mountain. The prison pizza is made from canned ingredients, but at least the prison kitchen staff brought the pallets inside shortly after they were delivered.

The magic is in the details! ;)

$40.00 for a pie $8.00 for a slice ? I tried a slice years ago and it tasted like the sauce was right out of the Ragu jar....

Oh don't get me wrong. I am in no way defending the Pizza at DCA. It's not good. It is overpriced. However, with only 3 days at the parks with a kid that falls asleep early (so our visits don't extend to nighttime), eating at the parks for lunch is more convenient and maximizes our park time.

On the other hand, we have gone to Marri's for dinner. They were pretty good. :)

Pretty sure it's the same pizza at both Boardwalk and Tomorrowland Pizza Planet? They haven't done the flatbread thing at Boardwalk for quite a while.

And they're probably just being comparable to prices at Naples in Downtown Disney which charges the same or more for a family-size pizza. Though granted, Naples tastes better.

But I'm one with no issue about eating at Pizza Planet/Boardwalk Pizza. I actually quite enjoy the chicken fusilli as it's a good combo of carbs and protein for energy to walk for hours.

That said, a few months back I got a slice of pizza at Pizza Planet that was just... ratched. It was somehow simultaneously burnt, dried out and oily. I took it back and asked for a replacement slice after one bite. They replaced it with no problem - with another slice that was equally terrible. So I went back again and this time spoke to a lead and explained the problem. They asked me to wait. I did and then two chefs came out from the kitchen. Un-oh - was I going to get reamed for daring to complain twice about their cafeteria pizza? Shockingly - no! They both legit wanted to know what the issue was with the slices. I explained that I ate there fairly regularly as I liked the pizza, but these slices were overdone and didn't taste fresh and cheesy as they usually did. I pointed that the color was dark brown rather than the usual light orangey-red. They listened and then asked me if I would wait. I said I would. I then watched them go over to the open kitchen, inspect both the available pizzas and the ovens, then they called every cast member together for a meeting where they were clearly discussing something. The two chefs then took the full pizzas and individual slices that were sitting out and threw ALL of them away and proceeded to scatter the cast members to different areas of the kitchen. The chefs returned and informed me that they were making all new pizzas if I was willing to wait. (I'm sure they would have refunded me otherwise.) I said I would wait and after a few moments they brought out two fresh, cheesy perfectly cooked slices of pizza for me - the kind I usually get there. When I protested I'd only ordered one, they said the extra slice was on them for the inconvenience. I thanked them and went and enjoyed my pizza thoroughly.

The moral of the story is - while the pizza at Pizza Planet is not Naples-level, sometimes the problem is how it's being prepared and if you have a concern and voice it politely, it can turn out to be helpful to them as well as to you as they don't WANT to make bad pizza. They want to make what they can as best as they can, even if it's not Naples. So yeah, if you have a concern, it can be addressed. Granted it was thanks to chefs who really were trying to do a good job when they were made aware there was a problem and I greatly appreciated the results. But I'm sure a bunch of other people before me ate the bad burnt pizza and simply left unsatisfied with the food and would tell their friends about how bad it was and not return again. And that doesn't help the restaurant either. So it wound up as a win-win as the chefs schooled the food prep folks and the result was better pizza for everyone. :)

I liked Naples even with their awful customer service, but when I came back for Disneyland's reopening their prices ALL doubled in price. Not worth it.
