Best time to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris?

What is the best time to ride Kilimajaro Safaris? I've heard early morning because it gets hotter later on and there's animal activity. Since we're going in late November, does the first thing in the morning applies? My plan was to do after 2 pm since we gave an ADR at Tusker House, so we will be in the area. But at the same time, we want to see as many animals as we can. What do you think?

Yes early in the morning. The animals are moving about more and you are beating the lines. Even with FoP being the big draw, Safari still gets a huge draw of animal seekers. Best spot IMHO if you can get it is to sit near the front, and I favor the left side of the vehicle. Have your camera ready because the photo ops come and go very quickly. The drivers race through the areas, they stop only momentarily and youre on your way...you dont have a lot of time to spot and snap.

We always fastpass around sunset and it NEVER disappoints. Once they had to call a feed truck to lead some animals, mostly giraffes, off the path because we were stuck for 30 minutes. It was incredible!!

I recently went at 7 which was sunset that day and I agree, that was the time I saw the most animals! It was amazing. Many animals are more active at night so I prefer the night safaris.

depends on the time of year. We did a mid day one in March, and got a great experience, yet we just got back and did an 8 am, and almost none of the animals were out or active.

We always go at Thanksgiving and yes early morning is good, but it is milder so most of the animals are out all day, we always try to get at least 2 rides in as every safari is different.

We have done it in the afternoon and most animals were in the shade sleeping. Did it our last trip early in the morning and we were amazed at all th animals out and moving around. Go early in the morning is the best time

I like early in the morning, but Disney uses a few tricks to keep animals where you can see them. It's been reported that the rock is cooled for the loin to like to lay there. Food is placed to keep animals in certain zones also.

I usually do it twice each day at AK. Once early in the morning and then again in afternoon.
Last December I went st noon because that was the only FP I could get, and it was one of the best safaris I had ever been on. Animals were all out and about. Keep in mind it’s December, not nearly as hot out as August.

I’m not going to be much help but I have been on the Safari at all times of the day in Oct, Dec, and Feb. I’ve had some mornings where all animals were visible and had to wait long periods of times for them to clear the road. Other mornings hardly anything. It does seem feeding time is in the morning which is good if the animals are going to or coming from eating, Otherwise they are standing in one spot chowing down. I’ve had great experiences during the day and evening as well and others complete duds.

One positive of morning is you can typically walk on the first 30 minutes and relatively short wait time for another 30 minutes so it is quite possible to go twice without using a fast pass.

At the end of it all we are at the mercy of the unpredictable animals!
