Best surprises at Disney

I notice that there are a few posts about funny experiences at Disney. I would like to know the best surprises you may have experienced there or witnessed happening to anyone around you.

This is definitely interesting to me because I got a huge surprise at Disney on the morning of Jan. 1. I got engaged at Chef Mickeys and my fiancee had it all arranged ahead of time. So during the half hour party where the characters dance and you fling your napkins, I found out I had a slip of paper under my chair and had won a prize. Well after being blindfolded and shocked in front of the whole restaurant, my boyfriend was on his knee proposing. I thought it was wonderful how Disney set this up. I figure this happens quite often in one way or another, for engagements or different stories. So I am interested in hearing more.

Well, yes I had something wonderful & romantic happen to me at WDW, but not with the help of any Disney CM's, just my husband (then boyfriend). We, along w/ my then 8 year old son were over in Frontierland (had just ridden Splash Mtn) and decided we would head over to Tomorrowland to ride Space Mountain. As we were walking, I said "lets walk through the Castle", so as we approached the castle, he starting telling me how much he loved me and that I made him so happy (I soooo didn't see the next part coming, so I was like, ya, ya, lets hurry up and get to Space Mtn), anyhow, just as we were about to enter the castle, right there in front of everyone he got down on one knee (at which point I still didn't see the proposal coming!), I was looking at him like what are you doing? Then he popped the question, and out came an incredibly amazing diamond ring, it was the last thing I expected! At that moment, the park could've been at maximum capacity and to me, we were the only 2 people there. It was amazing, unfortunately some other guests took our picture and went on their way. I wish they had asked for our address and sent us the pictures, because they actually took them while Keith was down on one knee holding the ring (I don't recall this, but he does & so does my son), anyway, it would have been an incredible thing to have a picture of, but that picture will always be in mind and the Castle will always be the most special thing in WDW to me!!!

Since I'm only 13 nothing romantic has happened to me but when I first went to Disney I was only 5 and my favorite character was Diasy. We looked all throughout the parks but still no Daisy in sight. On the last day of our trip I woke up and on my bed was a Daisy plushie. Let me tell you it was something I won't forget. My Daisy is still sitting up in room now! :)

Now that I'm reading these romantic stories I'm like aww because my dream is to get married in Disney World. I guess I'll just have to wait a few years! :)

I'ts not really romantic, but....

We took our close friends from Virginia down with us in August 1997, a couple of months before our 10th anniversary. I think it was her first trip and his second. We went on Splash Mountain, and Hope and I were in the front seat, Karen and John in the second row. John kept asking me where the photo was taken on the ride, and I kept telling him at the beginning of the big drop.

We finished the ride, and we got to the stop to look for our picture. The photo came up, and there were Karen and John holding up a sign that said "Happy 10th Anniversary, Mark and Hope!" Of course, we had to buy it.

We got in line to pick up the photos, and they're calling them out as they come from the back. "Number 739! Number 752! Oh...... who's Mark and Hope?"

(For those wondering why my name got to be first, it came from back in college, when my suitemates turned it into one word. "What are MarkNHope doing tonight?"

Anyway, here's the photo....

LOL! I´m sure that if it bothered them -if they were really thinking of buying the pic- they would have said something and ride again without having to wait in line. :animwink:

MarkNHope, that was a real nice story!

MStarfishee and Pocahontas, how romantic!

:) :)

I am so glad that you posted this story - as this is exactly what i am planning to do to my girlfriend when we go in Sept 03! I am so excited about doing it, that I can't wait! It's amazing to think that other people have been proposed to right by the castle! I know she'd love it so much! Thanks for the story!

We did the Honeymoon Grand Plan (and bankrupted ourselves, another story/thread)...

When we retuirned to our room on our first day, there was a Wedding Mickey & Minnie frame with balloons tied to it. Next to the frame was a card with an autographed/personalized photo of Mickey and Minnie.

Were we surprised...OH YEAH...my wife cried and I smiled all night.

I have a similar engagement story.......In 2000 my then boyfriend and I stayed at the CB resort and bought the resort mug for the free refils and he kept sending me to the restaurant to get then refilled while he put his feet up in the room (or so i thought). On the morning of my birthday he told me we were going to New York in a few months time to go shopping as my present, cool! So we spent the day in the parks and went to PI in the evening. In the Adventurers Club (our favourite) on of the charcters started asking if it was anyones birthday so i relunctantly put my hand up and the character started asking if i had had a good day so i told him about New York and he said well i think Glen wants to say a bit more than that before i knew it Glen was on one knee in the main bar proposing!!!!!!The New York story was a cover up and while i had been refilling the mugs he had been on the phone to the manager of the Adventurers Club organising it all and now our house is called the clubs motto "Kungaloosh!".

Just make sure when you take the ring out, that you are standing in a safe place! I´ve heard horror stories about rings falling! Don´t do it on the bridge!

I got engaged there too! On Feb 2, 2002 (02/02/02  ). Anyway, it was in one of the hammocks on the beach at the Caribbean Beach Resort where we had spent many nights the previous year talking and looking up at the stars at night. It was really romantic. We're getting married this Sept and going to Disney for our honeymoon! We're spending 4 days on land and 3 days on the Disney Cruise. We're so excited!

Good luck to you guys!

That is such a great story. What a good idea. I think engagements are so romantic by the castle or on a beach at a resort but the idea of proposing at one of your favorite Disney spots is great.
My fiancee loves Chef Mickeys (see first post), it remains his favorite since he was a kid and now I guess I will always love it. Have to go there for some of their great french toast and memories.

Romantic Episodes

A little background. My job for the previous 5 years had me flying all over the US. I had so many miles I think I could have upgraded to the pilots seat. Anyway, all the travel took me away from home.

1991 - Married and honeymooned in WDW. This in itself could be reply. The short of it, my sister went all out. We stayed in the honeymoon suites at Contemporary and Grand Floridian. We were on the set of Honey I Blew Up The Kid (sister is involved with Hollywood.) All expenses paid. It was awesome.

OK, now it is March 2001. Our 10th anniversary was coming up in September. Money was tight and it looks like our return trip to WDW for our 10th wouldn't happen. Then 9/11 happened and any surprises were out.

December 2001 - A series of events happened:
1. WDW e-mailed me an offer - any Moderate Resort - $89

2. Boss said - use your vacation time NOW. I asked if he would be willing to pay out on 4 weeks of stored up vacation (I still had 4 more to use.) He said yes.

3. Called the grand parents and asked if they would like to baby sit their grand chilren for a wonderful week in California. They said yes

4. I checked with my airlines to find out if I could use some of my miles for a ticket. The dates and availability worked out.

Thus began a Christmas never to forget.

My gift to my wife.
1. An old (thanks eBay) 1991 WDW Calendar.

2. A basket with several gift wrapped items, which included:
Mexican Salsa
Norweigen Kippers
Chinese Tea
German chocolate cake mix
Italian sauage
American cheese
Moroccan olives
Japanese noodles
French dressing
English muffins
Canadian bacon

Long about the 4th item she saw the thread running though all of these items. Then underneath she found the plane tickets, the 2 First Class plane tickets for a 1 week stay in Jan 2002 (complete with a Carribean Resort brochure).

She laughed and cried for a week. She had a permanent smile on her face.

The bonus: just before we left we got a call from WDW. How would I like to upgrade accomodations and stay at ANY hotel for just $5 more per night. So for $94 we stayed at the Polynesian for 8 days.

Heheheh. I just figured you out :D You try to get flamed in every post (lately) on purpose. They have a word for that on other discussion boards --'troll'--. :o Trolls bore me.. I'm not sure if your just real young, real bored, or just .. Ah, not worth it.

Have a nice time, we'll just politely ignore you and continue our discussion!

PS - That 'sno ball ego' wouldn't hold up too well in the central Florida heat.

Also Maria, i'll take you advice and steer clear of any bridges when I get down on one knee and pop the ring out!! ;)
