Beach Club vs Yacht Club

IMHO, the Beach Club (BC) and Yacht Club (YC) are essentially the same resort. Located on Crescent Lake and within easy walking distance of Epcot (DHS is a longer walk), the two share many facilities including an expansive pool area, Stormalong Bay. Their main difference is theming. The Beach Club's only advantage is that it's 2 or 3 minutes closer to Epcot's International Gateway (Epcot's back entrance) than the Yacht Club. On the opposite side of Crescent Lake is the Boardwalk, a small entertainment and shopping district that tends to be a lot of fun at night.

The Wilderness Lodge (WL) is a completely different beast. Isolated from most of WDW's other facilities, it is designed to invoke images of the Great Northwest. Its most impressive feature is its massive lobby. The Wilderness Lodge is a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom, with all other theme parks reached via WDW's usual bus system.

None of the resorts are "better" than the other. It's mostly a matter of taste. Which theming appeals the most to you? Beyond that, if you intend to spend most of your vacation at the Magic Kingdom, the Wilderness Lodge is probably the better choice because of its relative proximity. For other WDW destinations, the Beach and Yacht Club are more centrally located.

Isolated from other facilities, how so?

There is a bus from the WL to the MK. It's much, much quicker than the boat and runs more often than the buses to the other parks.
There is also a bus to FW.

Compared to other WDW resorts, the Wilderness Lodge (WL) feels isolated, as if you were at a great lodge deep within the wilderness. Compare its feel to, for example, the Monorail Resorts or the Epcot Resorts, which are clustered together. Even the Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL), located in the southwestern corner of WDW, is close to DAK while its savanna is expansive and open. IMHO, this makes the AKL feel less claustrophobic, less isolated.

I like driving down Timberline Drive, the main road to WL. For me, it's like being transported to another place. I almost could believe I was in the Great Northwest.

That is true.
What adds to that feeling is that you can't see a resort across the lake.

Sure, if you are in a hurry. However, this is WL. You're supposed to relax, breath it in, and take it slow.

Good point. Wish I ran across that attitude a little more often.

Besides, a lot of people rave about the boat ride. For them, it's one of WL's big draws.

WL to Mk boat is a big draw, hmmm, can't say I've heard that......... yet.

No
we have stayed at all three Epcot resorts plus the swan. as stated earlier, the walks to epcot and HS is a real plus. the only reason we prefer the YC over BC is that the YC isnt as busy. The pool is closer to the BC plus Beaches and Cream and Cape May Cafe adds to the crowd. other than that they are the same. Theres nothing wrong with the BW either. Our kids just like the YC BC pool better. Having said that, we chose YC for this Christmas. Cant wait

Pro WL here.
One benefit is that it's less expensive than the YC/BC.
FW, it's sister resort, is a very short bus ride away. Lots of stuff to do and see there.
I've been at all of the WDW resorts many, many, times and to me, the WL has a certain energy that the others don't seem to have.
Maybe it's the towering majestic lobby with its hidden sitting spots with fireplaces located in the upper levels.
Or maybe it's the flag raising and lowering ceremony on the roof where guests can participate. Or maybe it's the guided tour of the resort.

The Wilderness Lodge IS a little more isolated than other resorts (not all others however). You cannot walk to any other Disney locations, that's a HUGE difference to Beach and Yacht Club, where you can walk to EPCOT and Boardwalk in less than 5 Minutes and DHS in about 15-25 minutes. But it actually adds to the atmosphere and theming so I have no problem with that.
