BackStage pass closing for good!

Why would they close BSP right after revamping the first part of the show with the Pearl Harbor theme? It also seems relatively low intensive in terms of cast resources required. Everytime I have been on it, it seems quite crowded. Maybe they are going down to revamp the ride with a new update.

You are thinking of the Backlot Tour, backstage pass is right next to it and takes you through the soundstages. (the tours used to be combined around 95, but then went down for rehab and split in 96)

I really hope this rumors doesnt happen. I really enjoy the tour - even though a lot of people seem to hate it. I love seeing anything backstage - and that tour gives you some nice soundstage and backstage views :)

Backstage Pass

I've worked at Backstage Pass during the winters since 1989. We used to have 60 or more people there with 4 minute dispatches! I hear it's down to once an hour. To bad, the tour could be a fun "back stage" attraction. I hope they don't keep it closed forever. They have opened and closed other areas from time to time.

Is there any actual filming to see anymore? I last took the tour when Apollo 13 was filming, pretty interesting.

The tour is used now for Who wants to be a millionaire, when the contestant calls a friend for an assist, they pick someone off of the tour.

It would seem to me this is part of the overall deemphasis of Orlando as an actual Disney production studio. The animation work at Studios I understand is way down as well.

I don't know if it's changed or not, but the "phone a complete stranger" call gets placed to a cast member with a cordless phone on Mickey Ave right in front of the main doors.

If there is a tour going on in the Backstage Pass hallway, then the "phone a complete stranger" goes to them. It is only if there is no tour in progress that the phone on Mickey Ave is used.

Last spring before Millionaire opened, that was the spiel we gave on the tour. I'm glad that they actually did use the phone on the tour route as advertised.

They have been known to have us say something that wasn't quite accurate. Even word for word from the "official approved spiel". Remember the "dumb waiter" on display from 101 Dalmatians that we spieled about for months...and it wasn't even in the movie!

Well, it's almost Monday! :) Is anyone going today that can tell us if it did in fact close? Or anyone know for sure?

As someone else posted, the preference is to get someone on the tour but if they aren't available (they usually aren't), they go to Mickey Avenue... Oh, and I don't recall the phone being cordless. I got dragged over there by a desperate cast member one time in the morning when there still weren't many people in the park. rolleyes: It's sort of eerie to hear a room full of people laughing at something you say when you aren't trying to be funny.:lookaroun: In any event I have the "I was a complete stranger" button to prove it ;)

BTW, in case anyone cares, he got the answer wrong. I could only narrow it down to 50/50 for him...

Since PASS is re-opening with the Narnia props...

I thought i'd dig up this dinosaur...

Any memories of Backstage Pass?

It's in my top five most missed attractions.
