Again with the 'nobody wants that'. And nope.

A kid walks into the land - what does he/she/they see?

Spider-Man flying above the rooftops. Cap and Black Widow fighting Taskmaster in a stunt show on the catwalks. Doctor Strange teaching magic that (presumably) makes the trees light up around them. Black Panther entering the area with the Dora Milaje escorting him. Groot towering over guests with his familiar "I am Groot!" welcome. Someone eating a pretzel bigger than the kid's head. Another with a pet Spider-Bot moving in front of them.

And that's before going on the attraction where they get to hurl webs like Spidey does.

Yeah. No kid wants to see that.

I’ll buy Spider Bots for all our regulars here if the stuntronic makes it past influencer previews, giant pretzels for everyone if the stunt shows is still going after opening season, and photo passes for all if the sanctum doesn’t devolve into a basic meet in greet by the time the pandemic is over.

Though, I don’t doubt there will be American sized food and more costumes characters.

I'm not into the Spider-Bots (they kinda creep me out), but I'd be happy for a cute Marvel plushie. :D

Whats any of that have to do with a community college? You're delusional if you think all this stuff will be going on when you enter the land. You're drinking some of that GE kool aid, like when they promised characters and shows and bounty hunters tracking you.

Even if all of that did happen it'd be way cooler in a city setting and not a school campus administration building.

I hope for everyone's sake that all that amazing stuff is going on in Marvel Land, but I know it'll have maybe 1 meet and greet character, a bad Astroblasters Clone, and a community college building, and for the first 6 months a jumping robot that they will later decide isn't worth maintaining.

Six Flags at least had Gotham City and lets you put on capes. Disney would "freak out" because "what if children thought the people wearing toy capes were employees!".

If Disney attracted a 20-foot cutout of spiderman to a building people would complain about the lazy design that assumes guests are stupid.

Marvel Super Hero Island is miles below Universal's current standards, I don't see how that can be praised while bashing what Disney just built in DCA. Probably just extreme cynicism towards modern Disney.

I wouldn’t consider Marvel Super Hero Island to be a pinnacle of themed experience design but it’s design has a reasoning behind it that continues to make sense. A WEBS logo on a Circuit City is not really different than the giant Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure. Both are necessary to communicate that this is the Spider-Man ride but one is part of a larger aesthetic choice that works across the land and the other is a one off that requires knowing a backstory to understand why it is relevant. Marvel Super Hero Island has its own ridiculous backstory but it is not necessary to under the basic conceit of super heroes or somewhat understand the idea that you are in a comic book.

The Magic Kingdom's Buzz Lightyear ride opened before that show came out, and the Buzz in the rides looks more like the movie version than the show's version. Although the Magic Kingdom did add some characters from the show to the gift shop at the end (I think some of them were removed a while back, though).

Yes. And while I haven't seen every Six Flags Gotham/Superhero area, I wouldn't call a single one of them that I have seen cohesive or good.

TOT is smack in the center of the park (awful placemaking!), and the Marvel area (or at least, the former R&RC) is behind it down an otherwise purposeless path.

Who is Taskmaster?

And yes I agree, hurling webs like Spidey would be a great thing for me as a kid (or as an adult)....if we were hurling them at any one of his iconic villains. But no, we’re hurling them at little tiny personality-less robots.

It’s the little things like that where this land is going to fall a bit short of hopes and expectations. It isn’t like the general public doesn’t know Green Goblin, or Venom, or Mysterio, etc. These are iconic characters, and when they hear “fight with Spider-Man” they’re going to expect to see at least one of them. They aren’t expecting the “web shooting tutorial” from Spider-Man PS4, but that’s what they’re getting.

Yeah, even those first few Batman: The Rides were a lot of clutter and only a few real set pieces. Not building an area guided by the Burton and Animated Series art direction remains a huge missed opportunity. I’m also partial to Schumacher’s art direction, which would really be something at night.

Since it's right next to the Hollyweird area, they could have just done what they did at DHS with SW I guess and made it like you were entering the movie and just had it be a city setting, as opposed to a school with Circuit City. Not sure the California theme even applies when they have a space tower, so that didn't really need to be observed.
