AS SPORTS

Our plan has always been to stay at moderate next summer. I got a PIN for % off last week, by the time I called all moderate standard rooms were gone. I cannot justify the added expense of a preferred room when we are going for 9 nights. We are 2 families, mine has 2 boys 6 & 9 and friends have 11 son so we are going to go with Sports and save almost $1400. We've done Pop before so was just looking for something different.

Any one have GOOD things to say? Do they still sometimes share busses?

I wish I had some thing good to say about sports, When i was there they DID share busses. Personally I would do POP over sports any day.
* Pop is alot cleaner
* Pop is alot newer
*The food court is way better I thought my room was filthy at sports. I stayed at POP a good 7 times I would keep checking to see if a room opens for a moderate trust me! LOL Good Luck

I would consider making reservations at the moderates anyway, watch for discounts to be announced publicly. We can nearly always save some $$$ after our reservation has been made by watching the discount announcements closely, this year we we able to swap our AP discount for 4 days during a 14 day vacation for free dining for 5 for the entire stay which will save us a lot more. This past summer we were able to take advantage of a 35% discount offer that was announced about four months before our vacation.

If you make your reservations through Disney Travel, pay your deposit but hold off paying the majority of your balance until the last minute as these offers come up often and can be very good.

Having stated the above, the AS-S resort is nice and clean as all the AS resorts are, we have stayed at both Sports and Movies over the years as well as POP. All are basically the same except theming and size with POP being huge.

Remember the food court is currently being gutted and remodeled.

I stayed there one night a long time ago. It is not as nice as Pop and the buses were shared with other All Star resorts. I would think the food court would be done depending on where you are staying. There should be some article on here somewhere that says when it is planned to be completed. However, with the money you saved you can do so many more fun things and the resort probably won't matter. You also have boys, who I assume will like the sport themes.

The only real positive is that regarding shared buses, they do stop at all of the AS resorts. Sports, however, is the first stop so in situations where you'll share a bus like going to Downtown Disney or off peak hours to the parks, the odds of getting a seat are better so you won't have to stand.

Sports is or FAVORITE value resort! They do share buses, but on the bright side Sports is the 1st pick up and drop off. During busier times they tend not to share buses thou. I found the bus service at Sports to be MUCH better then POP. I will not stay at POP again b/c of the issues we had with bus service on not 1 but 2 stays there. At park closing, especially at MK we found that we rarely shared a bus w/the other All Star resorts. Plus they are in the process of upgrading the food court so that is a plus. Are favorite sections to stay in our football and baseball as they are really close to the main hall and bus stops. We swam in all the pool, but Surfs Up seemed to be our go to pool. They have fun games and trivia by the pool in the afternoon. The adults enjoyed the Team Spirits bar to in the evening! LOL. I think you will enjoy your stay there! Saving $1400 is a HUGE deal in my opinion!

The DW and I always stayt at the value resorts after our vacation package and stay has ended. We do this so we can see other things yet have the safety of a Disney resort and the ability to go to DTD on the bus and still have a little magic left before we drive back home. Now we stayed at the All Star Sports and we were just Okay with it. We were not into the sports themes. The Resort was clean and the staff helpfull. I feel if you have boys then you should have no problems. Now We have also stayed at the All Star Movies and loved it. We were very close to the food court and main pool. This theme fit us better. We want to try the POP and the All Stars Music next.

It should be done very soon, the food court closed for refurbishment in August 2013.
Last time I stayed at Sports (mid-September) two CM's who work there told me that they were told the refurb would be completed December 2013. I'm staying at Sports again mid November 2013 and will report back :)

I would suggest Pop just because of the bus situation. For the ASR you have 3 hotels worth of people in line for the buses. Otherwise there isn't that much that will really effect your vacation. If you really want an ASR though Sports is IMO the best option simply because you get served 1st when it comes to transportation. You are the 1st to get picked up and 1st to be dropped off.

Also watch out for pool views with the preferred rooms. You don't want to deal with the noise. Ask for a room facing something else. We got a Surfs Up that faced some trees between Surf and Tennis and it was actually very quiet and enjoyable.

I am stayin at sports now and I am in the building closest to all star music. I just walk over to music if I want anything. Pretty convenient! But holy crap with music sharing food courts with 2 resorts it's a mad house during breakfast time!
