Are you ready for some Football?....:):)

Thanks mousefan. I have to agree, it sounds just like audio slipping, and it's weird how the crowd noise just dies right after.

Another good example of why Good vs. Evil storylines in sports are usually bunk. Everybody does whatever they think they can get away with.

It seems like indoor arenas provide some of the best opportunities for "creative" advantages. Remember the guy at the Metrodome who said he would turn on the giant industrial fans that blew toward the outfield whenever the Twins were at the plate and then switch them off when the other team would come up?

Football should always be played outdoors anyways.

The weather should be a factor.

The weather should be a factor.

A team like the Vikings playing indoors has always struck me as odd. Going to Minnesota in December or January should be something another team (especially a warm weather team) dreads having to do, and not because of crowd noise.

Of course, the only way cold weather cities ever get to host Super Bowls is by having indoor arenas, so I guess it's a tradeoff.

And it completely takes a part of the game out of the equation.

Why not? When those professionals were kids...they played in the snow...and the rain...and the muck. Why do they do everything in their power to avoid it when they start getting paid money? OHHHH yeah...the owners don't want their investments to get hurt!

Play the game the way it was meant to be played. Unless it becomes a hazard for fans...play the game. (ie, lightning in the area, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, etc.)

^ I think a lot of it has to do with the "party" atmosphere people expect around the Super Bowl too. It's become a place for business execs and celebrities to hang out for most of the week, so the league tries to place it somewhere nice and sunny, so we get Super Bowls in California and Florida every other year.

I think it'd be cool to watch a Super Bowl played in the snow every now and then.

CBS is taking the rap for the crowd noise snafu. I'll buy it if people at the game didn't hear the reverb and echo.

Seymour stated today that he didn't hear anything but he said that he stopped concentrating on the crowd early on.

I have a feeling that it was a mic out on the field somewhere that caught some reverb. Whether it was being pumped into the stadium or it was just over the broadcast...it was probably a mic reverb.

What confuses me though is how the noise level drowned out so fast to the level of the crowd was when the offense was on the field.

Is CBS purposely turning the volume on the broadcast up to make it seem as if the Dome is even louder/quieter than it really is?

There are a lot of "audio" experts among Pats fans apparently on some of boards. What makes me think twice is that the Colts have been accused of this a bunch of times (sound familiar??). Jonathan Kraft complained to the NFL, but I don't know if he heard it himself in the stadium or on tv. Something to keep an eye on.
Of course I am also watching my 2nd favorite team - 49ers. That draft pick is looking better and better!

I can't believe you guys are seriously thinking that the Colts pumped in the crowd noise. It seems like you're looking for someone else to be cheating at something just so you can say the Pats are not the only ones who do things against the rules. CBS has said it's them and not the Colts. There is no conspiracy, there is no smoking gun. Let it go, guys. You won the game. Don't turn it into sour grapes.

I didn't even notice the audio during the game. I heard about it first here, then my husband sent me the youtube link, and I posted it on this thread. It seems the Colts have been accused of pumping in crowd noise before, so that's where the accusations arose from. Yes, we won the game :D, and I loved seeing the Colts squeaky-clean image tarnished, even a little. It's the whole Pats vs. the rest of the league mentality, I guess.

There is no tarnishing, just unfounded accusations. The Pats were caught, the Colts haven't been caught at anything.

Oh no...

The Pats cheated and we're well aware of that but most of us realize that it is probably happening (or happened) with other teams. It really doesnt matter though. Spygate is water under the bridge and the punishment was handed down.

I think the fans are just sick of the negative press.

Running up the score happens but who were the posterchildren?
Indy did it last year. The Eagles scored 50+ points this year on a team. The Lions just won by 35 points...and crickets chirp. When the Pats do it...all hell breaks loose.

MSN had a picture on its homepage up until gametime that showed an angelic Dungy and a devilish BB. C'mon...it really gets old and THAT is just sooo childish.

Its the same thing all the time. The media feeds off of it. Maybe the fans take it to heart a little more than the should because we are the only ones that will stand behind them.

It gets tough, especially on me and fans like me that try and give respect to everybody, because NOBODY in the media gives that same respect back.

I will never condone the cheating but it gets really tiring being the pinata of the sports world.

With the snafu last night...who started the hullabaloo? The media.

I'm sure it gets old having the sports media constantly harping on your team, but I don't think it's an anti-NE bias so much as the constant "looking for a story/narrative to hang on for ratings" bias.

Remember SB XXXVI? Just a few months after 9/11, the underdog Pats were "America's team." They wore red, white, and blue...they had no established stars...they were unlikely even to be in the game. In other words, they were the perfect "good guy" foil to the Rams, whose score, score, and score again MO was a played-out story by then.

Now that the Pats have basically assumed the role the Rams had back then, the time has come for the media to turn on them.

I'm sure the time will come when it is another team but some things are just plain childish.

I can even respect a heel/hero aspect as long as its not just made up storylines. The media is turning football into the WWE or a guy's soap opera.

Take Oakland for instance...they are the bad guys because of their fans and how their getups "strike fear" into the opposition. That is a fun twist and it is played off of the fans...not just media twisting.

At least the Pats are winning but if/when they lose a game...you can bet that the media will be harping on them. Even last night when Addai went 70 yards prior to the half...Nance and Simms were talking about the aging defense and how it was exposed on that play. That was ONE play! In the end it was that "aging defense" that won the game. One play opened up that door to get a quick shot in.

I have all the respect in the world for the Colts because they are definitely a special team and it seems that the players on both sides have mutual respect for each other. Did you notice something in that game though...VERY little showboating. Sure there was a bicep kiss but aside from that it was nothing but two equally great teams going into battle and doing nothing extra. Nobody on that field was thinking about anything but football. My point is...the only people that seem to have a problem are the teams that arent living up to their expectations and the rest of the country that doesnt step on the field.

Brian, I agree with you on this. But remember this--the Patriots are now the bad boys of the NFL and of sports. No one likes a cheater and they were found to be just that. Therefore, it makes it easy to bandwagon against the Patriots, including the media. The media puts out the stories that will sell, and hating the Patriots right now is the soup du jour. Also, everyone hates a winner and you get to wear that hat right now too. BJ had an excellent point in his post when you went up against the hated Rams in 2001. Now the tables have turned.

Ahh, it's not just us (the fans). The President of the New England Patriots, Jonathan Kraft, went to the NFL Security official at the game. Multiple teams have reported this. No sour grapes, just applying the same standard. If they cheat they should get punished.
Just tobe clear; I may be sick of seeing Peyton Manning on every freaking commercial, but he is a GREAT QB. The Colts are a Great team. Dungy is a Great coach.
Bill Polian is a .....:fork:. He has used his position on the Competition Comm. to try and change the rules and influence officials to favor his team. He has made deliberate comments in the press before a Pats/Colts playoff game specifically to influence their calls. No need to convince anyone in New England that certain members of the Colts organization will do anything to win; Polian has proven it.

I really don't mind the bad guy image and yes everyone can jump on the Hate the pats bandwagon, bon't blame us when we see an opportunity to take a shot at someone that took one at us.

will do anything to win; .

Man, I wish someone on the Bungle's would grow a pair. It seems like all they are doing is collecting a paycheck. . .

Hmmm

Collecting a paycheck for doing their job, which in the Bengal's case, is definitely NOT WINNING.

On a side note, Put Carson in the Patriots or the Colts offense and then you would have something to talk about. Carson can through off his knees as far a Brady can with a running start. Unfortunately, Carson cannot throw off of his back. . .

Neither can Brady; not often, but a couple of times e has tried and it has been ugly.
I really thought the Bengals would be dangerous this year.
