Are these resorts for real?

We just got back from our local mall, and I went into the Waldenbooks store to the travel section and found the books about WDW. There was a companion book to the "Unofficial Guide" written by the same people, called the Unofficial Picture Guide, or something like that. I can't remember the exact title of the book. And I don't know if it is the 2010 version or the 2011, as this is the time of year when the new year's editions are coming out. The Unofficial Guide was still the 2010 version, but the "WDW with Kids" was in the 2011 edition, for example. And this book didn't say a year on it, so I don't know if it was last year's or this year's.

Anyway, under the "WDW Resorts" section of the book, there were two resorts that I have never heard of. One was the "7 Dwarves Underground Mine" resort (Not sure if I have the name word for word or not, but something to that effect), and the other was something to the effect of "Boys will be boys, Men only Resort". In all my years on this site, and all the reading I have done, I have never heard of those resorts, either as proposed resorts, or as actual resorts. Both of these resorts were spoken of as if they actually exist right now, not something that is in the planning stages for coming years. My other thought was that it was a Disney Resort somewhere else, like the Vero Beach Resort. But they were both written of as resorts close to the parks. They were both included in the "WDW Resorts" section, and all the other resorts listed were the actual WDW resorts, so it seems unlikely that these were off property resorts. Unless perhaps it was a misprint and they were supposed to be listed as off property resorts, or rumored resorts or something.

Has anyone else heard of either of these resorts?

I have that book. They just have it in as a joke. It's the same thing under snacks you can get or something like that. Some are total fabrications. They are just having fun.

So do they have some kind of warning at the beginning of the book that they fabricate a few things, or do they just leave it up to us to figure out on our own when something is real and when they're just having fun?

The book has a ton of real useful information but has a lot of humor along the way. For the resort section, the real resorts are listed first with strengths and weaknesses listed and some pictures. The Seven Dwarves Cavern Resort is on page 87 and if you actually read the page you would know that it's not for real. Some samples are "Doc & Dopey Mine Train that extends beneath all four theme parks", & "Canaries in cages located in tunnels throughout the resort......If the canary is dead or seems a little under the weather, report it to the first cast member you encounter. Private canaries for your room are available to rent". Under weaknesses it has "dripping stalactites, and occasional mole in the guest rooms, easy for children to become lost (drop bread crumbs or pebbles), and chiseled rock furniture.

For the Boys Will Be Boys Male-Bonding Resort (page 83) it has "Activites include chest beating, ritual hugging, vine swinging, squirrel skinning, and Twister." Strengths are listed as "Men not required to lower toilet seats, crying not seen as a sign of weakness."

For the Special Treats in the MK section on page 196 it shows a Cinderella Caste Cone that "comes with a signed photo of Ben & Jerry int he bathing suits in Peoria, NY.", a Captain Hook Shish-Ka-Bob where "real cow meat is grilled on a stainless steel prosthetic device over an open grill"

The entire book is kind of tongue in cheek humor. In the MK section it shows MK Royalty witht he prince, princess, queen, and The King (a picture of Elvis). It makes the book a fun, lighthearted read but with lots of real info too. I don't want to offend anyone, but to me it's kind of obvious what is real and what isn't.

Ah, I see. Like I said, I was just thumbing through it in the bookstore, so I didn't have time to sit down and read it in detail. Plus, my daughter was in the shopping cart and I had to keep her from reaching for everything, so I was probably a little distracted.

It's actually a fun book and one of my favorites. The pictures are fantastic in it too! I'll admit that I looked twice at some of it because sometimes it takes a second look to make sure they are making things up!

He who hesitates is launched. There is a survival section in there for adults traveling with kids. And some of the best serious advice ever on traveling with children to Disney world. Followed my personal favorite the lady who writes she was tempted to abandon her snotty kids at the Magic Kingdom before thinking better of it.
You gotta buy those books

This is part of the book that is definitely true. We found a small girl 3/4 years old crying at a sunny hot entrance to Pecos Bills during the afternoon parade. She was sweating profusely and I asked if she knew where her mommy or daddy were. She wouldn't answer, just kept crying. I tried to coax her to move 3 feet into the shade while someone else went looking for a CM.

After 5 minutes of standing over her to shade her an older sister showed up and asked if the little girl wanted to come over here now. I asked the older sister where her parents were and she took me around the corner to a shaded spot along the parade route maybe 80 ft. away and out of sight. The grandpa said he knew the little girl was over there and that she was refusing to watch the parade from that spot so they were going to watch it anyway.

When I left, a cast member physically picked her up and moved her to the shade and was staying with her until her "parent's" decided to come back and get her.
