Are Some Online Disney Fans Obsessive Compulsive?

I'm just curious. I think I see some of that behavior exhibited here and at a few other forums. People that go to to the park not to have fun but to make a long list of things they see that are "wrong." Like burned out light bulbs, walls that aren't clean, etc. The attitude displayed is often that of food critics that can never be pleased. That seems kind of counter-intuitive to the goal of going to an amusement park (to have fun).

So I'm just curious if anyone thinks this is related to serious issues with obsession? Kind of similar to someone that can't be satisfied with anything that isn't perfect. I mean obviously there's a few things I wish they would do at the park, but some of these posts about downtime due to operational issues that every theme park experiences and tiny things they would only notice like a wall in It's a Small World looking slightly dirty is more than bit bizarre.

I am of the opinion that everyone has their own focus and enjoyment in life. For instance, some people enjoy online trolling.

I think we think of WDW as a child. We love it and want it to be the best it can be...and we complain when it can do better, but doesn't. I didn't see the IASW complaint, but that arch just before you exit could be cleaner, lol.

I also think, regarding the food especially, but everything really, that when you pay a lot for something because you deem it worthy of spending all that money on it...and then it falls short...you get a little miffed.

I had the most horrible burger at the Sci-Fi once. The bread was literally so dry that I couldn't pick it up; it just crumbled under my fingers no matter how gentle I was. So I used a fork and knife. The meat, too, was very dry..and hardish, like it had maybe been sitting for a while. I don't mind paying $20 for a burger and fries SO much, but when I pay $20 for a burger, I think it should be edible, KWIM?

I also paid $200 for a meal at WCC that was all dry. Again, not so mad that we had a baddish meal. Or paying $200 for dinner. But $200 for a meal everyone was disappointed in...rubs me the wrong way.

I don't know if that makes me OCD in your opinion. Certainly not clinically OCD. But there you have it, for better or for worse.

Yes some Disney fans may have OCD
some Star Wars fans may have OCD
some Harry Potter fans may have OCD

Anyone who likes anything can have OCD. The fact that you're saying "do some fans have OCD?" is similar to "Do some people that just happen to be Disney fans have OCD?"

No real connection.

You mean like the way some people will obsess over the need of others to complain? Such a vicious, vicious cycle.....

I think this is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. About 40 percent of the posts in certain forums here are exactly like this.

And another 40% are full of self-righteous prats who fail to recognize when someone is joking.

Whatever the case, it's dead on. I could have sworn that post was copy/pasted from the thread about the new Test Track being announced. Are you sure that's not one of yours?

I am amazed at how some people can be so offended when a PRODUCT is criticized, but see absolutely no problem criticizing and berating actual people. Amazing...

I have no idea what you're referring to. But then again, that occurs nearly 100% of the time (see, yet another random figure tossed out there).....

You mean like when this happens?

Did that person post here before about their bad experience? I'm thinking maybe. It seems awfully similar to about 30 different threads I've read here before.

If you're supposedly counting that many threads, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the issue isn't with us.....

This site is supposed to be for all Disney fans..those of us who love the world and have been there over and over and never tire of the magic...or those that are planning a first trip..OCD is a little strongIMO those of us that frequent Disney will notice the things that are out of place or in need of repair..or a good cleaning....generally things a first timer wouldnt normally notice. It's not inexpensive to visit..whether it be a day or a week..some families save for months on end or longer for a "magical expierience" and Disney owes that to them. Making lists and having a plan at a place like Disney that spans 4 Parks....2 additional water parks and a whole downtown Disney to explore is probably smart..."just winging" it will probably result in alot of missed oppertunities..not to say the whole trip should be scripted but if its the first trip...or you havent been in a while a "plan" is smart. THat goes along with ensuring you get the right room you booked and maximizing your meal plan if utilizing one. The Dining plan is a great resource but initself requires forthought on "planning to be a certain park" months in advance to get the type of resturant you want. Some of those meals can be quite enjoyable...and well worth the "planning" in advance.

I find it interesting that some people can become so devoted to a brand that they feel the brand can do no wrong and is above all criticism.

I think forum membership mimics the human life cycle to an extent. You have newbies all excited about their new found forum life. They grow up into teenagers who think they know everything and their viewpoint is always the valid one. They then grow into young adults who try to make a valuable contribution to the forum community. Then they grow into the seasoned adults who don't interact much with the younger crowd, other than try to point out valuable insights, because of the constant bickering.

And can I just add...I think it is wrong to take an actual disorder that some people struggle with..and use it to insult a group of people - just because you don't agree with their opinions. It's pretty low... My nephew has OCD, and it is certainly not something that should be thoughtlessly used to insult people...

You're right. I changed my last post accordingly.....
