Just an FYI.
The old Days Inn Main Gate East AKA Maingate Motel @ 5840 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34746 closed it doors yesterday afternoon.

July 1st last year they dropped the Days Inn name. They had been struggling for years. They had become an extended stay motel for several family's. I noticed last Monday 4/16 that a lot more of the rooms sat empty. Yesterday we noticed several people loading the last of their stuff. They were being watched by several other people, who we don't know. Maybe the bank. Rumor is that it was foreclosed some time ago, and last night a security company had a car making the rounds to keep people out.

We stayed there a few years ago and it was run down then and it has just slowly began to get worse. Their parking lots are now blocked off. Sad to see as I believe it has something like 300/400 rooms.

At one time this motel along with Celebration Suites and the Quality Inn next door was owned by the gentleman that built OLD TOWN. He sold off his holdings as he needed money.

A sad end to a long standing motel so close to Disney.

Aww how sad. :( Maybe someone will buy the property and make it into something new and better! The location is very desirable I would think.

The sad thing is that there are several motels that have closed this past year. One another ex Days INN is just a stone throw away from Animal Kingdom. This has been closed at lest 6 years. Storm damage from 2004???

You can see Everest from the road (192) its over by the new Target & SR 429. At lest 2 or 3 more out that way are closed. I think Disney has taken a big bite in the market. Plus the economy still rebounding.

Doesn't Disney still "own" this land and just lease it to the different hotels, etc along Irlo Bronson ?

Perhaps they are increasing the rent to finalize their monopoly in the area?

That's a good possibility. Keep increasing rent in hopes that the companies leave which will allow Disney to, in a sense, take back to the land and use it for their use without having to pay to break a contract with the companies currently leasing the land. Doubt that's the case, but definitely plausible.
