Was the real reason Horizons was taken down because GE dropped it?

This was one of the most beloved rides at EPCOT (they actually have Yahoo groups about it!).

I'll miss it when I go back to EPCOT in August. It's like losing an old friend. :(

Yeah...Wonders of life to me is a little outdated and the pavillion is in desperate need of repairs. Body Wars to me is a stupid ride and I love cranium command but it should be updated a bit. Horizons was a little outdated too, but I think that was kind of it's charm. To see what people thought our future was going to be like.

I thought they had to close it because either the ground it was built on or the foundation of the building was unstable and they HAD to take it down for saftey's sake. Can anyone back me up on this one?

Horizons was a great attraction, and i'll miss it alot. but mission space should be amazing. I wish Horizons could have remained, but i think the building was having problems.

Horizons was a ride i could always walk right into. We used to make a tradition of going on it before we left the park at night. We do the same thing in MK and go on POTC.

There was a sinkhole. :(

If there was a sinkhole why did they build Mission Space right on the same place horizons was. I think they just wanted to replace it. I miss Horizons it was a great ride, Mission Space might be a great ride but you can compare the two because they are much different.

They were going to gut out the ride, fix the sinkhole, then put everything back in, but they figured that they might as well put a new ride in, or so I've read.

Is there a quality, downloadable, complete ride video of Horizons somewhere? I'd love to be able to virtually ride it again, and I KNOW there's got to be tons of people who videotaped it. We've just got to get them on the PC somehow.

I did find one link to a video one time, but it was a real crappy realvideo streaming version that would chop up and stop every minute or so.

Somebody show me the light!

cound on Disney that...

If there is one thing you can count on diseny is that if the building of Horizons was not in danger, they would have reused it for mission space, (examples: JII, WOM, LK in MK, Mr Toad, Buzz, and we can go on all night...) the most evidant proof that the building was in danger is the pure fact that they didn't reuse it but tore it and built a new one.

I do like changes, I even like JII (flame me all you want)
but now I have a 2.5 years old boy and I start to fear that when he is 8 years old and we go to florida for a trip there will be no WDW for him,

Agree completely:D

Wonders could have gone away, after all Star Tours is basically the same ride with a different movie:animwink:

Cranium Command could have been moved. There are many places it would match:cool:

In addition to all the purposes it served Horizons made other attraction lines shorter :D

As for the sinkhole story, who knows? It may be true or an excuse to close a popular ride without getting a whole lot of flack:eek:

Video of Horizons is on this page

Yes, Thank You, but this is another Real Media Clip with horrible quality and compression. The owner of this site needs to re-do all his videos with WMV or Quicktime. Real Video doesn't cut it. The clip's quality is so bad it makes it hard to watch. :(

Doesn't SOMEBODY have a good videotape of it that they can encode using modern, quality methods?

Digital Disney is a great site. But I understand what you mean by small size.

Have you been to the Digital Media Forum area yet? If not, follow the links in my sig. Most of the videos that you can download via Mirc are larger in size. I am not sure about a complete Horizons capture, but I do know of a some partial captures are available.

I need to review my old tape I recorded in 1991 and see if it is worthy of a complete capture. If/when I do, pay attention to the Ride Videos!!! Thread because I will announce it there.
