Another Annual Pass Question...Sorry!

If you have an AP, I would strongly suggest you consider DDE instead of the dining plan. Less restrictive and overall, a much better discount, especially if you make multiple visits. 20% flat discount off of most restaurants including alcohol. Plus you only buy one and its good for a party up to 10!
The Dining Plan is tied to your room reservation, the "Disney Dining Experience" is available to AP holders. The DDE can be used at the restaurants on the DDE list (most Table Service Restaurants and a few CS Restaurants at resorts without a TS Restaurant [like the Value Resorts]). BTW, the DDE is changing it's name to "Tables in Wonderland", it seems people were getting the two confused.

While still a good deal - DDE or Tables in Wonderland as it is now called - is not quite as much of a discount as they automatically add the 15% gratuity any time you use the card.

Thought it was 18% ?
True, but as I leave that amount anyway, it still results in 20% reduction for what I pay....actually a little more, because I would previously leave more like 20%, I only do that now for truly superior service.

You are correct! It is 18% and I am the same way. I talked with a "mixologist" at WL last year and she was telling me that the mandatory tip came about from younger CM's that complained they were not getting enough tips and the union stepped in to do this. She said that the older CM's did not want it changed as they now get less than before because most people left more than 18% prior to the change and that now they only leave the included 18%. Her thoughts were that if the younger CM's were giving adequate service they would have received better tips!

I think the AP is for us this year - maybe not all years - but this year. And I am going to get the Tables of Wonderland too. It's a good deal even if the 18% grat. is tacked on. :) Thanks for all the good info and help with this decision - it was harder then I thought it would be to make. Oh - and I wasn't completely bashing the competition - although, after our experience there - it would be justified. :)

Thanks!
