Hi booked for 2016 in standard room but son is autistic and would love to see animals from balcony . Can anyone recommend a room no: that is great for amenities and viewing animals. We are there for 3 weeks and feel savannah view is very expensive. X

We had a Savannah room on our previous stay and waking up to views of the animals was a wonderful experience.

As has been said you won't get this view from a standard room, however there are viewing areas around the resort, accessable to all, that will save you money and mean your son gets to see the wildlife

Save your money- you can walk around and see the animals from the viewing areas AND don't forget to walk over to Kidani and see theirs as well, I really liked their central viewing area outside Sanaa. If you are not spending oodles of time at your room esp. during daylight hours, you will not benefit much from the upgrade IMO.

I have an autistic child as well. On a kid free trip we stayed in AKL in a standard room, and did see a few animals from the balcony. Nothing exciting like a zebra or giraffe, we saw an ostrich and some animals with antlers. When doing online check in there was an option to choose Savannah View or other things, we chose Savannah view. I have no idea if that helped, as this was our only stay at AKL.

Definitely check out the night vision goggles. So cool!

Your best bet is to just keep your standard view and go down to the lobby and see the animals from there. A standard view will not get you a full on Savanna view, and trying to request it won't help. You also can't request a particular room # if that's what you are trying to do. Sorry.

No true. You may still get an animal view, however it won't be prime savannah viewing. Standard rooms may overlook the parking lot, or they may overlook part of the savannah, but have things like buildings, animal habitat, etc in their view as well. A savannah view room tends to have an unobstructed view of the savannah, with nothing much else in the line of sight. I strongly recommend checking out the map on Touring Plans that a PP linked to and see what room locations you might get based on your room type.

You might have to play the odds if you don't pay the extra for the view.

I personally didn't want to take that chance. So I paid for it and it was very much worth it.

Yeah... that's absolutely false. MANY standard view rooms have views of the animals but aren't classified as "savanna view" because they're off in a corner, have a somewhat obstructed view, or is otherwise less than ideal to justify the premium price. At online check-in, many folks report having an option to select "Kudu trail view" or something along those lines, which will put you in a standard view room that has one of those savanna-facing balconies.

Much of the time, when you're booking savanna view, you're booking for a view of Arusha. That's just 1 savanna at the resort. As @princessmommy noted, 85% of the resort has some kind of savanna view. And I'm not talking like Disney's definition of water view in some cases...i.e. it won't be like having to stand on your balcony from a perfect angle to see part of a savanna. In fact, at online check in, as @CaptainAmerica noted, many who aren't booked in a savanna view report getting the option of selecting some kind of savanna view under the room request section. Mind you, we were booked in a pool view since I wanted bunks, but we were given the option of 3 different savannas even though I wasn't paying for savanna view.
