AKL Room Requests

So, I made my 3rd resort change last week ;) and we're now booked at AKL. I've reserved a bunk bed room with a pool view b/c it's just really not in the budget to book savannah view and ultimately, while I know it's very cool (and probably something we'll try at some point) I'm sure the pool view will be just fine.

We've never stayed at AKL though, so I was wondering what - if any - room requests I should put in.

Thanks! :)

The only room request that I've ever made was to make sure that we did not get an ADA room. My wife has had two back surgeries and needs to be able to soak in the tub at the end of the evening.

BTW, last time we went, to save money I just got a "standard view". Much to our amazement, they bumped us up to a Savannah View room for free! :)

I feel for your wife. I have a very dear friend who has gone through multiple major back surgeries and will likely be recommended for another next year.

That's great that you were bumped up! :) I have thought about switching to a standard room since so many people I know of wind up with a free upgrade to savannah view, but I really wanted to treat our girls with bunk beds...which only offer pool view and savannah view. I guess we could still get lucky and get bumped up from pool view to savannah view. I guess time will tell. Thanks!

Some of the "standard view" rooms have views of the savannah!:D Did you look at the map allears.net?
I'd rather have a pool view since it seems closer to everything. We always ask for a room near the restaurants, lobby, pool, and bus area. Lovely! You will love it!:D

I haven't looked at the map, but I figured since bunk rooms were only offered in pool view and savannah view, I probably wouldn't get a savannah view w/o actually being put in a savannah view room. Good to know though that the pool would put us closer to everything. We currently have 2 ADRs at AKL, but I think room location will only help us with Boma breakfast as our other ADR is over at Kidani at Sanaa.

I really hope we love it...I feel so silly constantly changing resorts, but I wanted to try something new that would have big wow factor and maybe even sway DH a bit. Probably not going to do enough of that, but a girl can hope :D

Good plan on the room choice as you are needing the bunk beds. Hopefully they bump you from the pool view to the savannah. Even if they don't, the pool is gorgeous. Not a bad thing to look at from your room. Boma is awesome, one of my favorite places to eat in all of The World (along with Jiko).

We have stayed there three times in the past, but had the savanna view CL. We are staying there next week on this trip, and we didnt request any room at all. When we switch Im going to ask for the best room available. We will see what we get. We loved the animals outside the balcony (and the club), but its just not necessary. Ill let you know how it turns out.

Just when is this trip? Is this your birthday trip? I don't know anything about AKL, you might know by now we only stay at the Values, but I'm sooooo excited to see where you finally end up, and hear how much you love it!

Yes, this is the bday trip :D It's a little over a month after my actual bday and a little over a week after my mom's bday...so it should be a bday extravaganza ;) If it weren't for the double beds, we'd consider the Values. I know the kids would love the larger than life details :)

I think I'd pay for the view if we had more down time, but otherwise- I fear that I'd never get the kids off the balcony. OK...and DH would probably have a hard time getting me off the balcony ;) Can't wait to see that part of your trip! :)

Its fun. The first thing you do when returning to your room is rush out to the balcony to see which animals are hanging out. We problaby watched less tv on our stay at AKL than any other trip because the animals were just awesome to watch morning or late night. If you have never stayed there, you will love the resort no matter what room type you get. The aroma you catch when walking by Boma is worth it all by itself! Have a great trip. September is right around the corner!

Thanks! It really does sound awesome to be able to step out and watch the wildlife directly from your room. Although, that does have me considering another dynamic here...nap/rest time. We often take mid day breaks and while the girls are quite used to this process the lure of animals just off their balcony may be a better treat for them when they're in the 8-10 range or a tad older. We dined at Boma for dinner back in 2010 and I do recall the aroma :) We've got a breakfast scheduled there this time.

Stayed at AKL 7 times and only paid for Savannah once. Having said that I've always been given a Savannah view. I've learned that they have "Standard Savannah View" which may mean a long walk or an enclosure below your balcony but well worth requesting at the Standard rate! Better than a car park view!

Wow- great that you've always been given a Savannah view! While I'm sure the walk, while longer than walks from more centrally located rooms, is just gravy after walking in the parks- it is something I do need to think about with the kids. We're trying to make this our first stroller free trip. While I'll probably cave and rent if the girls are just totally worn out, I also want to try and set us up for success with this as well. Either way, good to see odds are probably in our favor if we were to switch to a standard room. Thanks!

The fact that the OP has booked a bunk bed room might limit the choices. Much less likely to get a "bump" up to Savannah View. But it could happen.

That's what I'm also thinking. I mean, it would be great if it happened, but I think the odds are not in our favor since bunk bed rooms are just not as plentiful, and I truly think we'd be happy with a pool view. Ultimately, I was more curious - as far as room requests go -if there was a better floor to be on in this area or a section of the pool view area that might be more preferable than others. In some ways, it would actually be nice to go in with no room requests ... i.e. no worries about seeing which requests wind up being met.

I've only stayed there once. We stayed close to the elevator in Jambo House using DVC points, unfortunately, and it was loud. It woke us up in the morning as there was more activity.
