AK Lodge VS. Wilderness Lodge

Another vote for AKL, I've had standard rooms at AKL and granted they didn't look out at animals I had awesome views. There are a lot of viewing locations around the resort and walkways outside you can go and look at the animals so don't feel you have to be in your room to see them.

Hey Philo,

We've done split stays many times and use the dinning plan. You do have to book two separate stays, tho. As long as you book dinning and all your park tickets (for the entire trip) to the first hotel, then you're good. Leaving just hotel and dinning (if needed) on the second booking.

Ah, that make sense. Coming from the UK though, we get great deals on 7, 14 and 21 day tickets and I think it was some issue combining this with the hotel keys / dining plan etc. We couldn't have a Key to the World card either for the same reason, but this was all about 8 years ago!

The first trip my wife and I took, about 8 months into our relationship 2 years before marriage, was to WDW. We stayed at AKL. We didn't just have the worst view. We had NO view. We were on the third floor near the bus stop, and basically we saw the bottom of the piece of roof the people waiting for buses use for shade. That's it. We still loved the resort and always intend to stay there again. We had no kids and more energy (this was 11 years ago after all!), but we made time each day to walk the grounds and watch the animals. Boma is still one of our favorite restaurants (though the last time we went in August, we lost a bit of the magic, but not enough to stop going). Our hope is to stay at BLT until our kids get older enough to appreciate all the parks more (not just MK) and can both get around without strollers. First trip we take at that point, we'll probably go back to AKL (though we're DVC members now, so we'll shoot for Kidani village).
