OK so, it's never too early to start planning the next trip to WDW, right? We're planning on going in late April or early May next spring and we can start booking our ADR's next month!! Ahhhh!!! We want to try out some new places but my sister is a picky eater and I myself can be picky sometimes. I have an issue with sauces and cheeses on my food and eating things that I'm not 100% positive what it is. Weird, I know. lol We have a couple places we ALWAYS eat at (Le Cellier, 50s Prime Time Cafe, 'Ohana and Whispering Canyon Cafe) There are a couple others I have looked into trying but I do not know how "picky eater friendly" they are. California Grill, Sanaa or Boma, Via Napoli and Coral Reef.

Sooooo - are there any picky eaters our there who have eaten at any of those places and found things they liked? Or anyone who's been to those places.... how was the food? We want to branh out and try new places BUT if it's going to be too risky, we'll prolly just stick another lunch in at Le Cellier and dinner in at 50's and call it good lol

The best thing I can say is give it a try. If there is something you want to try but dont want the sauce as for the sauce on the side. If there is a side you dont care for as for a different one. Disney is most often more than willing to work with you on stuff like this. The only way to grow your tastes bud is to try...so dont be scared. You can always fill up on Mickey ice cream if you walk away from the table hunrgy!! Good Luck!

I am indeed a picky eater, although I personally prefer to use a more sophisticated term, such as "discerning palate" :). Sadly, I can almost guarantee that I am pickier than you and your sister. From your list of unknowns, I have eaten at California Grill and Coral Reef (I have avoided Via Napoli only because of the poor quality of food offered by their predecessor). Both were fine, and offered non-offensive choices on their dinner menu.

My kids a re not very adventurous and the DH likes to stay with things he knows.
On our last trip we tried Boma and everyone loved it! The foods sound exotic, but its really just African terms for everyday foods (Kool Slaai sounds exotic, but its just coleslaw). The herbs and spices may be different than you are used to (I don't usually put cinnamon on chicken, do you?), but the food is delicious!

Why not review the menus and maybe some of the recipes and pick out some stuff you like. It is a buffet and there is a chef at each station to explain the dishes to you and, if all else fails, you can pick from the kids section for mac 'n cheese and chicken fingers

It's hard to say because everyone's "picky eaters" tastes are different but as a general rule you should be fine at both Cali Grill and Coral Reef. I would shy away from Boma or Sanaa as many of their offerings are very cultural and even to a super foodie like myself, I wasn't 100% sure of exactly what was in everything I was eating.

I would before you go to any of the new restaurants, check the menus and see if there looks like something you would be interested in eating. Try being a little adventurous if you're not sure. You never know, you may find something that you like that you never thought you would!

Of your list, I've only eaten at Via Napoli but I have to say it was wonderful! I got the four cheese pizza and loved it. I'm super, massively picky (in my defense, it's because I'm a supertaster and most foods are simply unbearable for me) but how can you go wrong with crust and cheese?

Look through the menus for the main dishes. Not the toppings, sauces, etc. Just the proteins. If there's something you like there, you can always order it with the sauce/toppings on the side or withheld. Like, I loathe mushrooms. I think they taste like foul dirt. So if I ordered a fillet at Le Cellier, I'd ask them to hold the mushrooms. No real biggie.

Might help you guys decide if you want to eat at those places or not a little easier.

I'm a total picky eater myself! I can speak for Via Napoli, Sanaa and Coral Reef. (There will be pictures of Via and Coral Reef to come in my TR!)

Sanaa is very good. I loved the beef short ribs and chicken in red curry sauce. The red curry sauce tasted like a tomato sauce - not spicy at all. Very good. The beef short ribs also did not have a strong sauce..just a hint of cinammon. They were delicious.

Via Napoli was also very good. Service was not but the food was good. It's pizza! I had the margarheta pizza - the basic cheese. My fiance had the one with truffle oil and said it was the best pizza he's ever had. Desserts here are nothing to write home about but I enjoyed the pizza.

Coral Reef. Hmmm..Well last trip (2010) I ordered the NY strip and it was good...nothing special but good. My fiance ordered the catch of the day which was swordfish. The swordfish was outta this world amazing!!

This past trip - we both ordered the catch of the day because our (terrible) server told us it was like swordfish. It was not. It was flavorless. Mine had bones in it. It was gross. Big disappointment. Even the desserts were bland this time around. But we had seats right next to the glass so that was a bonus. Next time I'd go for the lobster ravioli.

Hope this helps!!

I'm an extremely picky eater. I've been to California Grill, Boma, Via Napoli, and Coral Reef and I love them all. California Grill has become a must-do every time we go, and I think I've had something different each time I've gone. Via Napoli is good, as long as you like pizza. I thought Coral Reef would be a challenge, since I don't like seafood, but I was able to find something there also. And Boma is a buffet, so you can pick and choose what you want to eat.

I'm very pickey and typically stick to the plainer foods. I've eaten at many places at WDW, the ONLY place that I was disappointed at was Boma. I really couldn't find anything for me to eat that wasn't off the kids buffet.

I'm a pretty picky eater myself. I love Teppan edo, GF cafe, 'ohana, Whispering Canyon, Captain's Grille and Coral Reef. Never had an issue finding something on the menu that was "plain".

i always find it best if i get the picky eaters in our family firmly involved in picking our adr's...if they've looked at the menu and it's a place everyone has something they will eat then the picky eater can't whine and moan about anything.
