Advice for Storybook at Artist Point ADR

Hello! Forgive me if this is not the right place to ask as I am new.

I am looking for advice (and reassurance?) in obtaining an ADR for Storybook Dining at Artist Point. I was unable to get a reservation at the 180 day mark; I waited later in the day rather than first thing in the morning as I am overseas and I was thinking they wouldn't fill up that quickly (oops - newbie mistake).

We (Mom, DD, DS and I) are doing a split stay at GF for 3 nights then moving to a DVC 2 bedroom at Copper Creek (renting points) for four nights. My 2 nieces are joining us at Wilderness lodge on 7th September and we have a pretty full on trip after that. I was hoping to start their trip off with a family dinner with Snow White, and that is the only night we could do so. I have only been to WDW once for four days with my Mom, so getting reservations was relatively easy for 2. This will be a party of 6, which may be part of the issue.

Thus far, I have made an alert on MouseDining, but again being overseas they will only email notifications rather than text so I may miss alerts. I also check the MDE site 2-3 times a day (I'm assuming some obsessive behaviour is normal on the boards...).

My questions are
  1. Any other tips to get the reservation? We do not have a preferred time, only a preferred day.
  2. As we will be on site at Copper Creek, are there ever walk-ups available for on-site guests?

If it doesn't happen, it won't ruin the trip, but my nieces have had a rough year and it is the first time the cousins are all together. It would be such a great way to start off our together holiday.

Cheers!

Keep checking back periodically, but more frequently as your trip approaches. Many people book meals but then their plans change, trips get cancelled, dates get modified. You’d be surprised at how many “last minute” reservations become available. For instance, out of curiosity I went on the website and looked under dinner at artist point for a party of six for today - there was only one choice of time (7ish), but there was availability.

There are almost always cancellations so that people are not charged for reserving. Check day before and day of very early in the morning.

This 👆. I have found last minute cancellations right before at hard to get restaurants. People book more reservations than they need and then cancel right before.
