Husband and I are thinking of spending our 10th Anniversary at Disney with NO CHILDREN! We would like to stay in a deluxe resort. I have been looking at Grand Floridian and Polynesian. Pros, Cons? Also, has anyone ever booked using DVC rented points? Thanks!

Having stayed at both those resorts for milestone anniversaries, there were far fewer children to contend with at the GF, especially at the pool. Families tend to flock to the beach pool (with the slide) while the main pool is very peaceful. All the rooms at the GF receive nightly turndown service (including fresh towels and chocolates) whereas only club level guests at the Poly receive turndown.

The GF tends to have a quieter feel than the Poly, and the grounds are very romantic to walk at night. There are also more restaurant options at the GF.

However, the Poly is my favorite resort (hence my avatar) and we have always enjoyed our stays there. We are booked for a romantic getaway at the Poly this summer.

You really can't go wrong with either resort. We have never booked a stay on DVC points, so can't help with that.

We stayed at the Poly this past Nov for a kid free anniversary trip. While we saw a lot of kids at the GCH, things were very peaceful in our longhouse. We also spent a good bit of time over at the GF. The GF felt more chaotic than usual during our stay, but I think...
1. The gingerbread house was going up at the GF, so it was drawing an above average crowd
2. The Poly is under construction, and I know a lot of people are avoiding it.

You might check over in the DVC section about renting points, but like @Tuvalu noted, there's really no bad choice here. :)

I'm not a big fan of the GF personally. Always get this "I don't belong" feeling when I'm there. A lot of the guests I see there while we waiting to eat or checking out the Ginger bread house seem up tight and borderline snooty. The poly on the other hand was a great experience but we stayed there before the construction started inside. Plus the bar at 'Ohana had the best Long Island on property lol.

I'm a DVC member, so this is just a caveat emptor kinda thing. It is possible to save a ton of dough renting points from a member, but that depends on the type of unit and location, and what kind of deals might be available to the general public for the same room without using points. . Seems like for most DVC resorts, you'll see decent savings if you rent points to stay in a studio villa, but not necessarily for a 1BR Villa. So do your homework before you take the plunge on renting points or booking from an agent or direct from Disney. Get a package price from an agent with all taxes included, and find out the points you'd need to rent for a trip and assume you'll pay $14-15 per point, though that will include all hidden fees. Unless you're renting points from a close and trusted friend of family member, be incredibly cautious as you'll have little recourse if they hose you. Consider one of the online companies that specialize in booking these kinds of trips (and skim some of the price per point for payment). And remember, unless you pay extra, a vacation booked through DVC will not get daily room service.

What's the best area (room) location at the GF? The main building? How fast to the MK? Thank you

The main building is club level only and thus very expensive. The resort itself is very compact and you can walk anywhere in under 5 minutes. Big Pine Key is closest to the main building and both pools; Sago Cay is closest to the bus stop and quick-service restaurant; Boca Chica is in the middle of everything. It comes down to personal preference.

MK is the next stop after boarding the monorail at the MK; it's a couple minute ride, tops. There is also boat service to/from the MK. It is best to take the boat to GF from MK as it is the first stop, and can be quicker than riding the monorail back (since the monorail will make 3 stops prior to arriving back at GF.) If you take the boat to the MK from the GF, you will make a stop at the Polynesian first.

A downside to the bus service (to AK, DHS, DTD and the water parks) is that the GF is the last pick-up and seats can be hard to come by in the mornings.
